Are you saying someone couldn’t start a competitor to college basketball or the NBA?

Average minor league salaries for a triple AAA baseball player is $15,000/yr. I think a D-League or G-League dude is like $20,000. This is real life now. Time to pay your rent and bills, etc

AAA guys actually have it pretty good. The guys in AA and A have it the hardest. Not an easy life and I believe G-league can make up to 6 figures but most are in the 30K but you're about the bigger point.Id take a P5 full ride over most those guys day.

Plate johnson is so wrong on these players market value

No one is going to know or care who these players are if they are in a minor league instead of college

People are invested in whether alabama wins or loses. Or wisconsin or Miss St. They will watch.

No one is invested in whether the Biloxi crawfish triple AAA teams wins a game or a division or whatever. No one

There are no billion dollar tv contracts for minor league sports. There are for college because people are invested in who wins or loses

Google it. G league players dont make 6 figures

They make $35,000. The guys who make money are the ones are called up to the NBA, of course

D- league players are around $20,000

Triple AAA baseball players make nothing $14,000 over five months

I bet minor league football would be even worse

There is a legitimate argument that these college players are making more than their market value if you include scholarships. But they dont care about school so they feel they are slaves.

Use your scholarship the right way and the 99.99999% of the athletes that dont make the NFL and NBA would prosper well beyond some bull shite minor league contract

Correct. Most lose money and have to be bankrolled by the major league because they need a developmental system in place to sustain their business. The NFL doesn’t have to pay this cost because of the sham that is college football.

Not without the level of athletes they have now.

these players market valu

Come on, use your brain for once. Why does the NCAA have to enforce name and likeness rules if scholarships were truly the market value for these players? You don’t have amateurism rules if you aren’t concerned about how the supply and demand calculus would play out.

Hell, talented basketball players have high market value in high school. That’s when agents start going after them. See: the whole scandal from a few years ago that ensnared Wade.

It’s not like it even matters what you or I think. This nonsense is ending in the next few years, and there’s nothing anyone here can do about it. Public institutions of education were never going to be able to pull off riding this line between televised sports businesses and “places of learning”.

College football and - to a lesser degree - college basketball are nothing more than no cost risk mitigation for the major leagues. Everyone with half a brain knew this model was going to collapse eventually.

None of those players are the in demand NBA prospects.

Minor league football players have already failed to get into the NFL. You are comparing apples to oranges.

No there isn’t. Your argument is easily testable: simply remove the name and likeness restrictions and see what happens. If your argument were correct, no college athletes would make any extra money.
Hell, all of the “paying players” scandals wouldn’t exist if their scholarship were sufficient cost.

Your argument is easily disprovable. You just don’t use your brain God gave you.

bullshite plate

College basketball level of talent has dropped dramatically since one and done started

But the ncaa tournament still makes a ton of money. Of course there needs to be some talent for interest. But nobody knows these players and they still watch because of the name on the front of the jersey

You are vastly vastly overrating the market value of these players on a n open market

Johnny manziel is a nobody if he played on some half arse minor league team at age 18. But he’s Johnny Football because he played for texas a&m in front of people who actually cared

Some might be eventually but so what? The vast majority in CFB aren't "in demand" either.

Some may have while others wouldn't have developed or matured enough especially those direct from HS

Please. You don't actually believe this do you?

Let's say you played at Bama the last 4 years

COA stipend $5,600 per year $22,400
Room And board monthly stipend: $1,500 (guessing but UGA was close to $1200 a while ago so I'm going with a conservative figure

Travel Stipend CFB playoffs: $2500 × 6 games $15,000

All other expenses outside of car/car insurance covered.

If you can't get by and or pocket some of this extra cash plus other expenses covered I don't know what to tell ya.

No it’s not

Get rid of college sports where there is no one watching and there is nobody caring about their likeness

Mac Jones is famous because he played for Alabama in front of millions of eyes. He’s a nobody if he didn’t play for bama but instead played for the Spokane spiders at age 18

You’re just wrong. Like I said. Do it. Cancel college sports and these athletes will be worse off

The tricky part

it isn't the tricky part; it is the whole of the problem.

It would ruin college sports as we know them. Large sections of fans hate pro sports because of the entitlement of players. College sports is almost to that point now. Inject that amount of "openly" dirty money that would come and its game over. If you think CFB lacks parity now, wait until wealthy boosters from sports focused schools get the reins removed.

I'd be fine with going the other way and eliminating admission waivers, enforcing academic standards and removing a lot of the privileges athletes have over typical students. Yes, the quality of the athlete may decline in terms of talent. But, the quality of "team" sports, passion and drive of the players would go up.

If there is a market for minor league football to get those top-tier athletes who are only in it for themselves with no appreciation for the value of an education and full scholarship, let it develop. I'll still watch Bama compete for championships in a much more watered down version of CFB.

The NCAA is a woke joke. The SEC and Big 10 need to leave and form their own conference and keep all the money. Clemson can come to but not the rest of the ACC.

For everyone bitching about amateur athletics in college sports, pay the kids your own money and support their asses. If they have value, you can make it up as their agent without college sports.

If it is that simple, someone would have done it.
College is a great deal for these kids.

And i agree that i would love for kids to make $ on their likeness. But there is no way that doesnt get abused to ruin competition. Keep the boosters out of it, and im all for players bringing in the marketing dollars.

This is where you're wrong. SEC schools would put 90,000 asses in the stadium if all of our teams looked like Harvard or Yale.

College football fans are fans of teams, not of specific players.
