It always amazes me that almost every one of these conference realignment complaint posts fails to realize what conference realignment is all about.
It is about pie, as in each school's slice of the conference revenue pie. That revenue comes from regional TV share. OSU does not bring an equivalent audience to warrant its share of the pie.

I was actually suprised that OU made the move because a few yrs back when there was more conf realigment rumblings OU stated they had a gentlemens agreement with OSU they both would stick together.

They would never do that. The SEC is all about controlling media markets. They don’t gain anything from an eyeball perspective by adding another Oklahoma school. However, having a STL market is a big ratings draw. There’s an interesting segment on the Lebatard Show where Ex ESPN CEO John Skipper explains all of this.

Kickout the flagship University of a state with 2 big media markets and bring in a second banana program that doesn't add any television sets that OU wouldn't. You'd make a great commissioner.
None of these conferences are going to sacrifice money for some false noble sentiment.
The only reason certain schools are in conferences right now is because they were founding members.
