I get that politically as I’m sure both schools have their appropriate legislative groups. However...I’m curious why Tech and UH don’t get state (PUF) funding when they’re both state schools themselves.

Is there a difference?
Texas
Texas A&M
TAMU at least owns its status but Utx seems mostly in the closet.

Because the state constitution set aside the land upon which oil was later discovered to benefit The University of Texas. Aggy got their grubby hands on 1/3 of it about 8 years after oil was found (typical jealous aggy).
A big Longhorn acquaintance of mine named Frank Denius, who died about three weeks ago, told me that he helped protect A&M from having the oil money shifted to the University of Houston in the early 70s by helping A&M start accepting women, to become more of a state university. His uncle was an Aggie named Wofford Cain.
Denius also insisted that the Longhorn Band play a classy halftime show at the last Aggie game in College Station, during which they thanked A&M for being our conference brothers for 100 years by playing "Thanks for the Memories."
Of course, the aggy band followed up by marching in a derogatory Horns sawed off formation.
In the end, aggy are lowbrow and low class. Watch your backs, SEC. They are not to be trusted.

Rudder already did that in the 1960s.

The state of Texas gifted land to the UTSystem and the monies shared are actually interest and dividends (AUF) created from primarily oil & natural gas produced from the lands provided by the PUF.
Early on A&M was governed by the UTSystem as the land grant college struggled financially. In 1931 state legislature voted to split the annual AUF dividends 2/3 to UT & 1/3 to A&M. Despite their split from the UTSystem governance, A&M retains its AUF/funding.
The funds are designed to exclusively finance higher education. Every year each state school has their opportunity to present to legislature and lobby for either a piece or higher split of the money. If anyone enjoys laughing at aggy or simply wants to discover the simplistic bafoonery of their leadership, YouTube Texas A&M’s pitch and presentation in 2016. Church & Chong level thinking & entertainment. Follow it up with the UT presentation & I think you’ll come full circle on why UT grads shite on aggy and roll over laughing at their “we rich” mantra. Congrats fukstix, your step Dad is loaded.
To date no other state school has proven to necessitate a change, eventually as the population further develops and the realization that the state only has 2 flagship caliber universities (see CA for proper statewide institutional develonent), I would expect some changes to be made.
In the interim aggy is officially Parasite U. Numero uno and has managed to parlay their Texas ties and filter money & acclaim from the SEC with regards to athletics.
Who knows, maybe one day they’ll discover an energy source from raping sheep & finally provide value and bring something to the table.

That's true. A huge Longhorn helped save your arse at least twice. He assisted with the legal and legislative aspects of coeducational status.
Kind of like DeLoss Dodds going before the NCAA infractions committee in the 90s, begging them not to give aggy the death penalty for which they were eligible because of multiple infractions in a short timespan.
The reasoning was that it would destroy an already teetering Southwest Conference, but Arkansas' later leaving pushed it off the cliff anyway.

Read the earliest minutes in Texas legislature history.. hilarious and consistent with the same irritated responses heard today in regards to dealing with aggy buffoonery.

Both of y'all take this way too seriously

Family history for me.. key players in the legislature during the early 1900’s & 30’s were from both sides of the family.
Career wise it’s a factor as well, of course the entertainment has its rewards too.

After crunching the numbers, 2/3 of those posting say they'd rather spend their 4 years at Texas, vs 1/3 for A&M. Class dismissed.

I was born in Houston, grew up in Louisiana, and now live in OKC.
Have spent a lot of time in both places. College Station would be so much better if it was closer to Houston.

Agree to disagree. I grew up in Houston and live here now and like it, but am fine with CS being a little further out. I don’t think the suburban part of Norman really adds much for a college kid and the the college town parts of both are very similar.
It’s 90 miles to Houston and about 100 to Austin if you want to go to a big city. That’s really not that far.

I think I'd choose Wallace State in Hanceville over A&M in College Station.

Texas they have female cheerleaders

Fair enough. I prefer Norman but obviously a A&M is gigantic so many people like CS just fine.
