Some of these kids will make a lot of money, some are going to fall prey to hangers-on and agents, and piss away a chance at a good education and college experience.

A fabulous idea - lets have government run college sports. I'm sure the quality of play won't drop a bit.

Pointing out the idea capping wages isn't as communist as the poster said, by citing our own government's cap on salaries isn't exactly an endorsement for having government run college sports

But since we're going down this mental road - where, exactly, should we cap YOUR earnings at ? After all - some people surely make less.

Me personally? My earnings as an alabama athlete were capped out with my scholarship

Free Will - get this - includes the freedom to make bad decisions. Limiting other people's freedom to make bad decisions will always - always - ultimately end up with those same people having the power to limit your decisions ... which you may not view as bad.

The only way their bad decisions regarding NIL can possibly impact you personally is that you'll be denied the ability to watch them perform - for free - for your entertainment.

Now we're getting down to it. Why are these kids too good to sign your same bad deal ?

A cap on salaries is EXACTLY opposite of the principals of Capitalism and Free Enterprise. Shall we make all college ball players de facto government employees ? So that we may cap their wages ?

Players will go to the highest bidder from now on whether it is legal or not so why pretend it is still about amateurs. The only way they wont is if the schools begin to draft players pro style instead of allowing the player to pick who he plays for and Im not sure that is possible.

They always have. Why - please, for the love of God, somebody tell me why - every athletic department has raced to raise cash to build the most opulent training facilities, athletic dorms, uniforms, dining facilities - and hire the all important coaching staff that can put the athlete in the pro ranks - other than to make a de facto bid to get the best talent ?

What about this system makes anyone still say "amateur" at all ? The money is HUGE.

Good Grief - it really chaps some asses around here, that a slice of the money will go directly to the
talent providing the product - rather than all the well-positioned handlers at the top.

Yet these players all aspire to play for those commie loving NFL teams. Weird.

Why should ball players, who make money by the score for the athletic department, not have the same options ? There is no logical reason why they should not.

You could take D3 talent and put them in Ohio State-Michigan unis and the game will still sell out.

I think this all just shows how the priorities of society is absolutely fricked. Companies will pay millions to help a 5-star athlete go to their nearby university when there are many better ways to invest in the community.

Its the best deal in town for a guy trying to make a living playing a game. Not hard to figure out.

Now - lets not bullshite ourselves. Why is there an NFL salary cap ? Why is there a strict pay structure for rookies - extending to up to five years - which, conveniently, covers the typical NFL career ? Because the NFL wants labor cheaper than what they themselves would purchase at auction. They literally can't trust themselves.

Because the owners all agreed they couldn't trust themselves - they agreed to fix prices across the board. This is not legal in any other industry. But, because it's entertainment for the masses - it's allowed to slide. Three cheers for Anti Trust Exemptions.

Let GM and Ford meet and agree on a cap on wages for secretaries - and then watch the fur fly.

I’m cool with the NIL. Broke boys can go home.

He who pays the piper calls the tune.

In other words - if I write the check - I don't care about your particular opinion regarding the effectiveness of the investment. Don't like it ? Write your own check.

I’m all for it.

Our two biggest rivals have done it for years (Kirby learned from Saban), and now they’re deer in the headlights because they see the writing on the wall that schools with more money than them are also going to be able to legally do it too now.

This thing is in its infancy. Wait until the other big money schools hop on board. USC with Riley is heading towards another golden era.

That's cute but unintended consequences and chaos are soon to follow. Good luck, motherfrickers.

GFYS. The fans and alumni bases make CFB, not the players. There was no shortage of athletes wanting to play big time CFB for nothing but a scholarship. NIL is the worst thing that could happen to CFB.
