NIL is the best thing to happen to college sports.

It really has done wonders for the players which is what it is all about. Hopefully the ncaa will not screw it up by placing too many limits on it.

Faggies are relevant for a day. Keep writing them checks losers. They’ll leave soon as they see it’s hopeless.

We are rapidly heading down the path where the NCAA won't be setting limits on anything. And I like it.

Kids - there was a time where the NCAA controlled all NCAA Football Television contracts. Why ? Because the crop of ADs back then lacked vision and will. Then a flat out revolt occurred, known as the CFA. It's the entire reason that conferences negotiate their own deals now.

NIL is the next logical step. Hell - as a kid on an academic ride at a D-II school - I got a small check each semester to cover living expenses. And the Engineering Department absolutely loved placing all us students into local jobs - for which we got paid.

Why should ball players, who make money by the score for the athletic department, not have the same options ? There is no logical reason why they should not.

Just a lot of dudes that like their free TV sports entertainment - and like the idea that "the kids are playing for a free education".

Ain't nothing free.

Needs to be capped. It’s a runaway train right now. Legal bribery.

I believe the schools will completely pull their football programs completely out of the ncaa and form a new league, possibly a professional one.

I disagree, the players should be allowed to take full advantage of their economic rights. No limits.

And what do you think a "signing bonus" is ? A cash incentive to make a decision that the writer of the check desires. I've taken several in my career. Funny - they didn't call it "bribery" then.

Does it make you feel all that much better, when a booster writes the check to the school instead of the player - in order to build Five Star Athletic Dorms, and provide one on one tutoring, and special kitchens to prepare special meals and special gyms to allow special athletic training not accessible by the typical student ?

Because all those things are also "bribery" - money spent to persuade a ball player to pick School X over School Y. Every damn school in Division I engages in an arms race to do all that, to gain an advantage to "bribe" the best ball players to attend their particular campus.

There is no "cap" on those donations. No limit on what those donors can enjoy in return - special access, a general level of arse kissing by the administration that you or I will never receive. "Bribery" - in other words.

But oh no - it would be awful if at least some of that money was given directly to the player instead. Simply awful.

I hate the NIL as it is. Of course this is the fault of the feckless NCAA for not doing anything about paying the players when just a few thousand a month would have sufficed. Schools raked in millions and millions and let the NCAA flounder on the subject and eventually they fricked around let a court get in the mix.

This is a bonafide mess. Ags are 1 of 10-12 teams in the U.S. that have tons of booster money to throw at it. The vast majority of teams do not.

Maybe you think the coaches salaries need to be limited or the admin or the universities that make 10's of millions, but then that would be communism to legally mandate what jobs pay what and what entities can make. this is capitalism and free America where everyone should be entitled to pursue the American dream and get market value for his or her services including players. I hope your not a swamp commie.

I feel bad for the poor schools but that is no ones fault but their own.

It’s just minor-league pros now. Might as well watch the highest level of professional football (NFL), which is what I follow more of.

In the real world, we like to call those jobs, and the talented can demand higher salaries.

Didn’t your coach just leave ND because Woodward pulled up with a tuck load of cash?

Your take seems hypocritical and tone deaf.

Weird... don't we do that for our president, vp, senators, and congressmen?

This mentality is exactly why the group i listed above is so corrupt and fricking useless

You mentioned breaking away and forming a professional league.

Can you have a healthy College Football if it was a professional league with 10-12 schools that year after year after year had the enormous salary advantages?

You do realize that EVERY PROFESSIONAL SPORT has salary caps now right? Therein lies the problem with what is going on now and what will happen in a "professional" college football league. Unlimited payroll does not work for most teams and eventually you end up with the Yankees type of teams of old.

And I would like to take this moment to point out a real life story, that anyone as old as me can verify living around the city of Louisville.

Back in the day - before evil boosters were cracked down on by the NCAA - a pretty good downtown car dealership named Brown Brothers Cadillac used to have a pretty standard deal for UofL basketball players. Kids had to put on a suit, which Brown Brothers would buy, and come sit in the showroom, for $50 an hour, and glad hand. This went on back in the 80s.

That shite is not allowed now - because we've "cleaned up" all this "bribery". I say the old ways were better. At least the kids learned how to put on a suit and glad hand in a car dealership.

Yep, apathy has already set in around the country with a lot of schools and regions who have no chance to win a title, it’s going to get a lot worse now.

A fabulous idea - lets have government run college sports. I'm sure the quality of play won't drop a bit.

But since we're going down this mental road - where, exactly, should we cap YOUR earnings at ? After all - some people surely make less.

I agree. Not sure how they can fix this but it is a mess with seemingly no brakes at all. The money is basically unlimited and sports agents really haven't even made their move yet. High school kids will SOOOON be represented by agents while in high school. The shitstorm is coming.
