Wow..... So how do you explain the 2001 SECCG and the 2008 Bama-Georgia game? 1998 Michigan State-Ohio State? Saban clearly had inferior talent in all of those games.
If you think Spurrier is the better coach, that's cool. It's a good argument, but don't be stupid about it.

Does not compute.

yes, you have to consider the context.
Fair enough. Saban took over two teams mired in mediocrity. Within 4 years at the first and 3 years at the 2nd he had 3 CC'c and 2 NC's. This alone separates him from everybody else, regarding this accomplishment. Not saying he is the best but Wilkison's 47 game streak, Bowden's 15 years consectutive top 5 finishes, Bryant's 6 NC's in 19 seasons...are marks that put them in a class by themselves. An argument can made Saban coached in a slightly tougher SEC than Spurrier@UF did. I think I'm pretty open-minded. What else?...especially a pro for Spurrier.

I respect the fact that Spurrier still has IT. And this gives me hope that Saban can hang there for quite a bit longer.

And I would add this is like talking about having a Cadillac versus a Lincoln Town Car. Only the rich would have this conversation.

I'd take Saban any day, I think everyone else saying otherwise is either trolling or wants to contradict the mainstream answer

The OP asked for opinions. People are giving their opinions. Now I know having an independent opinion might be unknown territory to you, but it does happen. There is no "mainstream answer". You have to learn to think outside of the Red Elephant Cult.
If you can.

Want to discuss 2008 ULM and MSU games? Since 2008, it is hard to say Saban's teams have stepped on the field with lesser talent.
Anyway, Spurrier lost 9 regular season SEC games in 10 years in the 1990's.
We will see if Saban is able to equal that this decade. So far he has 5 SEC regular season losses in 3 years.

Okay, that's definitely a pro for SOS.

That Nebraska team ...
And Spurrier did what a good HC does, make a better staff hire, then Stoops proved his worth.
Hopefully there will be the same correlation with Miles/Cameron.

Spurrier also coached in the SEC at a time when Tennessee and Alabama were the only other consistent threats. That just might explain the 9 SEC losses in 10 years. The league was weak in those days.

That Nebraska team would've destroyed ANY of the Bama title teams.
Wrong, with the strength and size of today's athletes, the 2011 Tide would have made it more of a game than UF ever did. It would come down to the 4th Quarter.
Not to mention, when Steve Spurrier ruled the SEC.... the conference had 3 National titles the whole decade. Saban started with a 6-6 team in a conference that has still not failed to with a national title every year.

And good for him, but you do realize how terrible the SEC was in the 90s right?

According to Stassen, from 1990-2000 UF#4, UT #5. Next was AU at #22, UA #24, UGA #25. Annual FSU was #1.

Saban wins are "aided", that's all I am saying, good for him for taking advantage.

Name one school in the West that didn't have one of their worst decade in the 90s.

Saban. Can't ignore the two additional nattys because I know they happened. Spurrier reached his ceiling. We don't even know what Saban's ceiling is yet.

But what do you mean by 'aided'?

Why are people acting like Spurrier coached 50 years ago? He's still coaching now with the technological resources, and still can't get over 11 wins, and STILL can't recruit

Things beyond just regular football

Terrible is not accurate. Not as good as the past few years, that is true.
His only SEC loss in '93 and '94 were to very good AU teams that lost only 1 game both year combined (undefeated in '93 and 1 loss in '94 when AU came up 1 inch short on 4th down against bama).
His other regular season SEC losses were to:
#5 UT in Knoxville
#12 UT in Knoxville
#24 MSU in Starkville
#12 LSU in BR
#10 UGA in Athens
#1 UT in Knoxville (OT)
#8 Bama in Gainseville (OT)
Spurrier lost 2 SEC home games in 10 years by 1 point in overtime to a top 10 team and by 3 points to a team on a 20 game win streak.
