Well, Mayock's constant reference to Jamarcus Russell every time he mentions Cam Newton is a good start.

You're taking it completely out of context:

quote:

"His mechanics are very good, but I would also (offer) one cautionary note, and that is the best pro day for a quarterback I ever attended was JaMarcus Russell. That same day, even though I admitted it was the best pro day I ever saw, I also said I wouldn't take him in the first round. For me, it's not about him throwing in shorts; it's about a lot of other things."

quote:

"To me, there are two issues with this kid," he said. "Issue number one is he came out of a shotgun, and if you watch the tape it's basically a very simple offense. One read and either the ball was out or he was out. Can he adapt to, can he process and assimilate a very structured and complex pro offense against a complex pro defense?

And secondly, and most importantly, when you get to a certain skill level in the NFL, which this kid certainly has, at the quarterback position what kind of kid is he? Is he going to be the first guy in the building? Is he a gym rat? Is he football smart? Is he a leader of men? All of those things to me are way more important than any workout in shorts."

He is just saying scripted workouts in shorts doesn't hold a lot of merit to him when scouting a QB...

Ryan Mallett (Arky)- I will say I think he will go to the Bengals.

lolwut?

Unless Mallet has a utter dogshit Combine and pro day, he's a first rounder brah. Lemme guess, you still think Cameron Newton will be a top-5 pick too don't you?

Didn't read the whole thread, but seriously someone thinks the best TE available MIGHT go 2nd round?

Scripted workouts in shorts don't hold a lot of merit for ANY quarterback.

And lots of QBs do'em.

The entire "throwing" part of the NFL combine is "scripted". Here's the route, take this drop, make the throw.

Yet scouts pay attention to them anyway. Maybe because PROFESSIONAL scouts can see things even in a scripted workout? You think that could be the case?

And yet the only player ol' Mayock seems to have a problem with a "scripted" workout is Cam Newton. Why? JAMARCUS RUSSELL JAMARCUS RUSSELL JAMARCUS RUSSELL! That's why.

If you really consider this hating on a prospect, you have some thin skin. Turn on ESPN when Kiper and McShay are on, they will rip into a prospect at a drop of a dime.

Other than the fact that this sentence didn't come out how you wanted it to,

Cobb will have to go OFF at the Combine and Pro Day to make it to the 1st. The Ravens are set at the back positions. They are set for the next couple of seasons at receiver. They aren't going to use a first on a guy like Cobb, who while versatile, hasn't proven to be a master or even excel at any of his trades.

Cobb will probably be drafted somewhere in the 60-80 pick range.

I'm a fan of Williams but he is not the best TE.
