Nikki McCray-Penson will be Mississippi State’s next head Women’s Basketball coach, per @bportnoy15.

Her résumé includes:

Don’t know, it went from between the to of them to it being Nikki pretty quick.

Honest, African American Female vs White Male... with the week we’ve had I think the decision was already made. Just the times we are in. I do think she’s going to be one heck of a coach at State.

I have no complaints. I got to Knoxville a little after so don’t remember much about her playing, Hearing good things though.

That was a straight out identity political hire by John Cohen. Cohen getting his arse reamed over the mike leach debacle. Diverts attention to a black female.

Considering Walz just took a pay cut and is staying, I doubt it.

After Vic was gone I said we’d hire a female, Leach just sealed the deal. Honestly though, I love the hire.

Mitchell turned it down with a quickness. If he wasn’t leaving for Tennessee when they called, he wasn’t leaving for State.

Why would we want to hire a coach that we keep beating?

I think all the players that left Kentucky early over the last 4 years scared State away. Seemed to be lots of unmanaged drama between players, coaches etc. Don’t think State wanted another Stansbury.

“ Matthew Mitchell knew he needed to stop the bleeding after two recruits backed out of their commitments, two assistant coaches left the program and one player elected to transfer, all in the last week alone.

All told, Mitchell’s program has lost 11 people since the start of the fall semester: five transfers, one dismissal, two assistant coaches leaving voluntarily and a third he chose not to renew, plus the pair of prospects backing out – a McDonald’s All-American signee for 2016 and four-star commitment for 2017.“

Or she was a qualified coach who was eventually gonna get a big time job, and Cohen saw that. One or the other.

you're totally overthinking this. the entire football world is just concerned about actually having a season at this point. she sounds like a great coach. frick yall can have Nikki Fargas and we'll take her any day at LSU.

America is so ADHD that the only thing sidewalk fans remember from the HBO CBB documentary was that LSU is coached by a beautiful pear, not the cheating thing. What I'm really trying to say is that I and everyone else have already forgotten about a pointless tweet that doesnt have any real implications.

Love Nikki. Got to spend some time with Nikki, Dean, and Holly on a project years back. Hard worker and definitely earned my respect.

Would love to see Holly succeed as well somewhere.

Gonna make the rivalry between our WBB programs interesting. She was with Dawn from day 1 at Carolina. Left in 2017 to pursue HC. Amazing lady, wonderful coach...and she learned from the best.

Y'all better take good care of her.

Congrats on a terrific hire!
