Great rule change. Happened to a Troy LB back in the day. I forget what the cutoff was, but he played a few snaps in garbage time one year, and had to appeal to get his 5th year of eligibility. Had to sit out a few games his senior year to start the season.

When I first saw the title of the thread, I thought teams were being REQUIRED to play everyone at least 4 games. Like Pop Warner or Pee Wee League rule that requires participation by all the players.

I like the rule, but 4 games is 1/3 of the season. Seems a bit much.

Except bowl games? That dosn't make sense. With all the players deciding not to play in bowl games that are going to the draft that is a game you should let the young players play in.

I found it. The no bowl thing only applies to mid-year enrollies. So a player cannot graduate early and come in in January, play the bowl game, and redshirt.

Great for the fact that if a QB or something gets injured, you can play a backup who is redshirting without him losing a year.

And of course blowouts.

Excellent. The easy scrub games ( Presbyterian, Eastern Michigan, Western Illinois, Texas A&M ) should be like freshman games.

Not really.

Every single play of each game is already broken down, charted, and each position's performance on the down analyzed.

But I do agree that it makes more sense to make the determination based on the number of games played.

I don't know why the NCAA doesn't just let everyone play 5 years. What difference does it really make?
