I fully expect it to be similar to endorsements coaches do. Local business stuff mostly

I don't know how colleges and NCAA are going to be able to manage this.
The competitive imbalance it creates goes against all amateur rules

The real imbalance will be between football and tennis, or football and swimming, and males and females on the same campus.

Wouldn't change anything as far as this law is concerned.

Uhhh, maybe at LSU. But Alabama's fan base isn't going anywhere, and I think you know that.

I agree. It will put a little spending money in the pockets of some athletes. But I would conservatively estimate that at least 80% of athletes at Bama and LSU will never see a dime.

I don't think any of these bills are requiring that.

Cory Booker has introduced a bill that does

They're allowed to do endorsements too. It doesn't mean they're entitled to them.

Who in the hell wears the jersey of a stud rower, other than their family?

No player will earn a dime off merely the sale of a jersey. The university controls that, because even though it may have the player's name on it, it's still the university uniform and logo. A player would, however, be able to show up and autograph the jersey for a fee.

Yeah but what are college fanbases built on?
It's taking the family to the school you graduated from.
All the SEC schools have basically tiered their ticket prices to specific opponents.
When LSU plays Bama at home it's a more expensive ticket
When LSU plays Florida at home it's a more expensive ticket

At what point do fans say I'm not paying $1000 to attend one marquee home game when you factor in tickets, parking, concessions. etc.

When those games stop selling out, it'll adjust. Make no mistake, it's a business.

Of course they'd be allowed to. And they are also entitled to right to market themselves to the extent that a business or individual would be willing to pay them. How much do you think a female discuss thrower at LSU might make.

Good. Capitalism is king. If a kid is worth getting paid then let them get paid what they’re worth.

Zero. Fair market. Same as the male discus thrower. It's not an equality issue.

A football player doing a car commercial takes away a female scholarship how?

Nick Saban has a Mercedes dealership, screw the Dodge Chargers, those 5 stars will be driving around in style. The Red Elephant Club members will be buying autographed pictures and jerseys for all of their friends and family for Christmas, and they better watch out, because Vandy and Texas A&M boosters will soon be outbidding them for the best recruits. Yep, no way that NIL thing will just end up as a back door way to buy recruits.

So? Every big team pays players in the dark already. This doesn't change that. If anything it'll be more in the light.

That is the point. It won't be through the back door anymore.

Also, now the players will have to pay uncle sam his fair share.

This will change nothing except that the players will get paid above the table. Competitive balance isn’t gonna shift, and it’s not like it could get much worse than it already is.

It's just becoming an inferior version of the NFL.

What's the appeal anymore?

Well let's see:

a)Targeting rule
b)Players opting out of games
c)Rampant cheating
d)Wokeness
e)Paying players

Did I miss anything? We are getting closer to the point of no return imo.

LSU fans? Sounds like pretty soon.

Seriously...I pay about $500 per seat, per year, for my 4 season tickets, sideline, 5 yard line, upper deck, for 7 home games. Calculate the price for the premium game and a percentage of the Tide Pride donation, and I'm paying maybe $125 per ticket for LSU this year.
Savvy fans, at least in Tuscaloosa, know where they can park for free less than a mile from the stadium. And I don't spend more than $20 for hot dogs and a drink. So we're a helluva long way from $1,000...at least in Tuscaloosa.

Yes.

Stadiums becoming places full of shitty rap music and non-stop ADs for products because schools have to whore themselves out to everybody in order to keep revenues competitive.

It isn't the same as when I was a kid. Its harder to feel any sense of emotion or connection to the institution when they're selling Doritos and insurance to me at every single time-out.

I feel bad for young people who never got to see it when it wasn't this way.
