Shoulder hit first.

Which was against the rules and deliberate.

Dial was deliberate in relation to the momentum of Murray's head?

It was definitely a dirty hit, and he knew it when he did it.

He had a free shot at a QB. He is a DL. It is football, for Pete's sake.

NOt sure that matters in helmet to helmet contact.

Dial should have been ejected and suspended, but yet he remained in the game.

And Murray should not have been chasing down the ball carrier trying to make a tackle if he did not want to get pancaked.

It may not. I guess it is a good thing I am not Steve Shaw, eh?

And Murray himself said as much. Gotta respect that

We get it, you're just going to defend Bama to death.

It doesn't even matter if you admit to it being a cheap shot, who cares?

It was one, they happen.

If you think that, you obviously don't get it. Take a peek at my exchange with WDE24.

My mother cares.

Sure they do. In this instances, I don't feel as if it was one....and my momma said that is all that matters.

I thought it was a little dirty at the time, but it wasn't called so, oh well.

What I'd like to know is if the people who are saying "It's still football." are the same people who attacked the Saints for their "dirty play" when the "Bounty" scandal was going on.

I mean, hell, every "dirty" hit showed was a legal play.

So to clear this up, the QB can still be blocked on an INT or fumble return, he just can't be targeted above the shoulders at any point on the return, regardless of whether he is "defenseless", because the QB in this scenario is considered always defenseless. If he is targeted the player is ejected.

For any and all other plays, you can target/hit above the head unless the player is defenseless, which means:

a. player in the act of or just after throwing a pass.
b. A receiver whose focus is on catching a pass.
c. A kicker in the act of or just after kicking a ball.
d. A kick returner whose focus is on catching or recovering a kick in the air.
e. A player on the ground at the end of a play.
f. A player obviously out of the play.

I applaud this rule change. The Dial hit was a cheap shot and everybody knows it. It may have been legal, but it was still cheap.

Not really. Every coach should do that. If Gus came out tomorrow and said that the D shouldn't get to sub when the O does because they aren't calling in as many signals as the O...and HUNH cures cancer...I wouldn't bat an eye.

frick that. It was a cheap shot on the QB and should have been flagged. Go be fricking bias somewhere else. We all (except Bama) seen flags against our team for way less than that cheap shot. ie Copelands flag in our game.

no it wasn't.

Considering they were hitting that way, playing that way for extra $$$ they were, in fact, illegal plays.

Shocker. I knew all of that lobbying by Richt and Co. would result in a rule change.

Honestly haven't heard this, can you link me an article?

If Murray didn't want to get hit then he shouldnt even appear to attempt a tackle.

Yeah, man. He was really busting it to get him.

Not according to the refs.

The Saints were one of the least penalized teams for Unnecessary Roughness in the league, and actually hurt less opposing players than almost every other team.

Warner and Favre, the two players that were shown over and over again being hit by the Saints as dirty hits, even admitted the hits being shown were not dirty.
