Looks like both players were warned, I still think the people firing the cannon should’ve waited for them to move.
Like many things these days, not that big of a deal in the grand scheme of things but people will pretend to be outraged because everybody likes drama.

Notice their teammate praying at the goal line. Seems he understood the warning.

It shouldn’t have happened.
That said, there isn’t an Ag in Kyle Field who doesn’t understand what happens re: the cannon firing. There are multiple signs/warnings surrounding the cannon. It’s anything but an arbitrary occurrence.
Of course, the UMass players weren’t familiar with the routine and—despite warnings—obviously didn’t anticipate/appreciate the sound and smoke produced by the cannon.
I don’t think the two players were trying to be problematic, nor do I think the (scheduled/formulaic) firing of the cannon by the Cav was intentionally directed at the players. The cannon sat precisely where it always sits and was not moved to strategically offend UMass.
Not unlike a worksite, safety precautions must be idiot-proof—even (particularly?) if the “idiot” in question is a visitor. Whether the cadets were right or wrong, it’s obvious additional stopgaps will be put into place.
Unfortunately, like most good things in life, one negative incident could very likely put an end to something that’s been a great part of a school’s celebratory zeitgeist for ages.

Y'all are still going with this weak arse line? Again, stopping a train before it hits someone is damn near impossible. Choosing to not fire a cannon in someone's face is just that......a choice.
