The last song played at my mother's funeral was Rocky Top.

She was a rabid Vol and Lady Vols fan.

My dad died of COVID on 1-11-2021 after a month in the hospital. Up until he was ventilated we probably talked more than we ever had (and we worked together) because I was out on COVID quarantine too. Many of our discussion were the Hogs. He was big on Musselman but the season hadn't quite been up to par, but improving. I told him I thought we had a legit chance at the elite 8 and maybe final four, the baseball team was of course highly ranked, but football was his love. One of our last conversations was about the football team. He asked me if I thought Pittman was the guy. He loved that Pittman loved Arkansas and was greatly encouraged by last years team. He knew his odds were poor and said he just wished he could've lingered long enough to see the Hogs competitive again and hear the roar of a real Razorback crowd like when we beat Texas' arse in 1982. I can't remember a game we didn't watch together, text or call about in my 47 years. I watched the Texas game alone at my camp. I grilled on the ol' PK grill him and my grandpa used to for Razorback games and enjoyed the ride. As the students stormed the field, I couldn't help but tear up. Then like a movie, I looked across my pond to see one lone boar grazing (generally he would've died) and a rainbow. No lie. I knew then that I didn't watch it alone and he got to see his beloved Hawgs return to glory.

I even buried him in my favorite Razorback hat. He wasn't a suit and tie kinda guy.

It's been bittersweet to watch the Hogs run to the elite 8, the baseball team and now football. As much as I enjoy it, it's still a punch in the gut everytime we win. Just not the same. But I did have my first grandchild. A big ol' baby boy after nothing but girls. He just turned one and loves the Razorback fight song and is a beast. He'll be watching with me today as a new tradition begins. Wooo Pig Sooooie! Razorbacks!!!

Sorry for the length, but we hunted, fished, worked and watched games together, so I saw him about every day for the past 20 years. Haven't been fishing since. Hard to go to the camp. Hell, I'm crying now.

Damn this thread.

Me too. Been watching games alone. Think I'll go one house over and watch it with my best friend. He comes over after games to have beers with me. He played baseball for the Hogs and watches with his dad, they snuck up on me at the camp after the Texas game. Just said they thought I might need company. A true friend always knows.

shite, I'm a wreck now.

An Aggie, Razorback & a Longhorn all go on a fishing trip..

They rent all the equipment - the reels, the rods, the wading suits, the rowboat, the car and even a cabin in the woods.

The first day they go fishing, they don't catch anything. The same thing happens on the second day, and on the third day. It goes on like this until finally, on the last day of their vacation, the Longhorn catches a fish.

As they're driving home they're really depressed. The Razorback turns to the Longhorn and says, "Do you realize that this one lousy fish we caught cost us fifteen hundred bucks?"

The Aggie says, "Wow! Then it's a good thing we didn't catch any more!"

Man, I know how that feels. I am right there with you. My dad died in August of 2020 and my mom died in February of this year. She died from cancer as well. Nothing can prepare us for losing our parents.

I also lost my bonus dad who had been in my life since age 5 in January of this year. 3 of 4 people who cared the most about me are gone. It is a rough season. I always enjoyed watching SEC football with my dad.

Praying for you friend. We all talk trash, but at the end of the day this is the reason I come on message boards. We are all family!

Sorry baw. Started out trying to develop a heartwarming story but it devolved into a personal pity fest.

I left out the really good part. After the A&M win, knowing how I've been feeling, my daughter brings down my grandson and tells him to call the Hogs for Grumps and make him feel better. Little man gave me a loud and clear "Wooo Pig" with an arm pump. She'd been working with him every day when I was at work. She said he'd never given the arm pump with it or said it that clear. Just what I needed. I know Dad had a big ol' grin on his face too. Woooooo PIG SOOOOOIE!!!! Razorbacks!!!

YOU’RE sorry? I’m the one that started this.

These stories are exactly what I was looking for, though. Especially with the dads, these things tend to be part of the love language that helps share things we don’t normally say.
