Because if there was more to the phone call, then Wade would have been indicted along with the other coaches that were. This is a bribery trial. Unless the defense plans to introduce evidence Wade took a bribe from Dawkins, which would be detrimental to Dawkin's case obviously, there really isn't much I can see that would be relevant to their defense of Dawkins' charges of the same. And if there was more to the phone calls, like you said, they would have already been introduced. Defense counsel is pulling at straws because his client doesn't want to take a plea. They now want to put on a show to try to take down college basketball, which isn't relevant to the case in front of the court, just like it wasn't during their fraud trial.
