Don't tell Dale Denton this. He still believes Arkansas is a powerhouse.

how could a program be so shitty that it can't muster up 20 appearances in the NCAA tournament. anyone outside of the top 4 should be ashamed.

Because prior to 1974 only conference champions were allowed into the tournament. Guess what that meant? If you didn't happen to win the SEC in the rare years Kentucky didn't win it you didn't go to the NCAA tournament.

Alabama had a couple of SEC champion teams in the mid 50s that aren't counted among Alabama's 19 appearances.

Bundy,

Correct about Mississippi State technically should have 3 more appearances. I do however think at least 1 of those 3 appearances were included in the 10 listed for MSU.

It has to be that one of the teams we played had to vacate because I've literally never heard of a hint of any NCAA issues with that season or point in time

No, Alabama had to vacate their 1986-1987 participation because of some doings by Derrick McKey. The link to the Alabama media guide mentioned their vacating of their participation.

Don't know what else to tell you.

We played in the tourney in 1963 after not being allowed to play on 59, 61, and 62.

We were ranked 4th in the nation in 1962 and weren't allowed to play. We beat Kentucky twice that season.

That's a great story about them virtually sneaking out in 1963. Vanderbilt helped them a little bit "hiding out" so to speak. The Loyola team they played (and won the NCAA title) started 4 blacks and the game was just a hard fought game with solid handshakes and back slapping after the game.

I don't know what the sanctions were, but wasn't it a prior basketball infractions case that made the football case in 1995 or so more severe?
quote:

Institution: University of Alabama

Date: February 9, 1999

Violation Sumary: IMPERMISSIBLE RECRUITING: Assistant men's basketball coach attempted to obtain money from representatives of the university's athletics interests in order to provide the cash to a prospective student-athlete's high school coach -- the prospect previously had orally committed to attend the institution; the same member of the men's basketball coaching staff violated telephone contact legislation.

Penalty Summary: No penalties against the institution, only a four-year show cause against the former assistant men's basketball coach.

Currently yes. But Arkansas dwarfs MSU as a program and when history is taken into account.

Congrats on splitting the series with us this year though. It was nice that you let us win one.

when you haven't been relavent in 20 years it's hard to claim that you are still a powerhouse. shite, 1994 was the year most of the incoming recruits were born.

Arkansas has 30 NCAA invitations. In 1944 Arkansas had accepted the NCAA invitation, but a crash with two team members involved caused us to not to have enough players to play. The following year in 1945, we made our 2nd Final Four. This is why Arkansas recognizes us having 30 NCAA appearances.
