The NCAA doesn't want to overplay their hand. They want a slam dunk case and they don't have one yet. They can't afford to be wrong on this. Can you imagine the blowback if the NCAA wrongly declares ineligible a black QB on the verge of winning the Heisman and the BCS?
As much as the NCAA would like to avoid a repeat of Reggie Bush, I think they are far more afraid of wrongly accusing Cam and having to later exonerate him when Auburn appeals.
Ergo, they are still BUILDING their case. And if takes them 5 years to complete their case, that's how long they'll take.

Wrong and slow is the most likely outcome for the NCAA, however.

I would love to see that.

I for one will not be surprised to see Cecil Newton go down and Cam be ruled elligibile to play at Auburn.
To say Cam knew nothing about this at all, if in fact Cecil did anything, suggests he is basically a mindless robot.

A lot of people. My dad told me what schools he wouldn't pay for, which was his way of nudging me towards the school he preferred.
But of those folks, how many of their parents were able to have a serious discussion with a booster about getting something "more than a scholarship" and "putting a smile on my face"???

There are several athletes who go to schools because that's where momma or daddy wanted them to go.

I'd like to hear your definition of "building a case."
building a case is more of using what is known to figure out a way to prove the party guilty. At no point has the NCAA done anything close to that. They are still trying to figure out the facts.
Building a case can prove guilt or innocence, right? When information is gathered, a case of guilt or innocence is created to ultimately result in a verdict for or against the accused person based on the facts gathered. Is this hard for you to understand?

If momma and daddy didn't have a big influence, you wouldn't see head coaches going into homes telling momma especially about what a great place so and so is and what a Christian (in the deep south) atmosphere they promote and how they are going to take such god care of her baby boy/girl.

Charles Goldberg just posted an article about Emmmert's comments at al.com:

When asked if he takes his marching orders from Saban and the REC, Emmert issued a terse "NO COMMENT".
