Maybe you are missing the part about it still being illegal to pay the athletes? This makes no since. Now everyone can shop their kids for the highest price as long as they don't take money. The parent who asks for the most and is rejected wins.
Im not missing the part. Now the parent can shop the kid and the school can say no you're rejected or whatever and pay later. Noone has to ever know.

IMO, that is HUGE news for Auburn. Can't see the NCAA screwing around knowing they'd have a title game with the 2011 version of the BlackSox.

You think AU didnt work this out with the NCAA ahead of time? They would have to in order to ensure Cam would be ruled eligible so quickly.
Otherwise they risk him remaining ineligible while the NCAA looks in to it.
Tried to tell people this but people wanted to believe the doom and gloom, and that idiotic as the plains burn thread. Auburn figured the talks took place and worked from the assumption they did, it worked with several lawyers early on. It was a formality from that point, after Auburn's investigation into its recruitment of Cam, as well as the NCAA's investigation into Auburn's recruitment of Cam and found nothing.
There is a very strong chance of lawsuits after all of this mess as there was some horrible reporting on this and the "leak" of his records at UF.

They reinstated the five players involved in Alabama's 2007 textbook ordeal. And had a final ruling 18 months later.

It just doesn't make sense.
Cam wanted to go to MSU, but they wouldn't pay so he just goes to Auburn for free. That doesn't sound logical.
Also if he doesn't know anything about the money then how is he going to know what school to go to in the end. Cam would have to be a damn idiot to not know what is going on.

I'm going way out on a limb now to say the SEC should appeal this now that it knows something happened at MSU and we turned it in and Auburn burned it's "we didn't know shite, we all-in baby" card. Since now it is blatently obvious the AU played a QB they knew was ineligable all season. And according to the eth-e-sthee, as Lou Holtz would say, then once ineligable at one institution you are ineligable at all schools.

The precedent has been set: Parents should ask for all the money they can get. If they dont actually get paid then it's no problem. if you do get paid then that is just a bonus!!
Yep. Apparently all they have to do is claim that their kid had no knowledge of the situation.
Awful decision by the NCAA

yes yes.. parents should try that.. because this investigation and shitstorm for AU has been so wonderful. You know.. kind of like sliding down a razor blade into a pool of alcohol.

I'm glad that the NCAA ruled in the manner that they did. It's worth a fortune to currently hear the Bammer fans that I'm around here in Montgomery. The Bammers are currently having shite fits and boy are they pissed off.

Yea but this isn't as big as the textbook ordeal. I am pretty sure this will be the last we hear of this cam fella.

Why did AU just yesterday declare him ineligible? I don't understand that part.
From what I've read, when Auburn learns that a rule was broken, they have to declare him inelgible. They did that and then petitioned the NCAA for reinstatement. The NCAA reinstated because, at this time, they don't believe Cameron or Auburn knew about what his idiot father and that MSU booster were doing

“In determining how a violation impacts a student-athlete’s eligibility, we must consider the young person’s responsibility. Based on the information available to the reinstatement staff at this time, we do not have sufficient evidence that Cam Newton or anyone from Auburn was aware of this activity, which led to his reinstatement.
This is the key statement. The NCAA is saying that they do not have sufficient evidence that Cam or Auburn were aware of Cecil Newton's solicitation. To me this is a ridiculous conclusion. Cecil as Cam's father was clearly representing his son. Why do you need "evidence" that Cam's father was representing his son? It's his son. Obviously he was marketing Cam. Otherwise, this sets a precedent that any father of a gifted athlete can solicit his son's services for money as long as the father does not tell his son that he is doing it. I can only conclude that if Cecil had been paid big bucks by a 3rd party and his son and Auburn were not aware of the exchange, then Cam would still be eligible. In other words, all Cam and Auburn had to do is make sure the arrangements were handled through a 3rd party with no "evidence" of connection and everything is hunky-dory.

But were any of the games they 'reinstated' them for 'vacated' ?
Hard to vacate games when a guy wasn't held out. Auburn may very well be forcing the NCAA's hand knowing full well they don't want to suspend Newton. But I wouldn't get my hopes up on 2010 going in the toilet in two years.

I agree. Good news for AU. What is means is the NCAA has NOTHING at this point to conclude ANYTHING happened outside of Cecil's actions.
As I pointed out many times to some of the retards here, Cecil soliciting money from MSU without Cam's knowledge does not make Cam ineligible at AU.
What this means is the NCAA has no evidence that Cam had any knowledge or that a payment was ultimately made.
Given the amount of time this has been out there (about 6-10 months) and the intense scrutiny and investigation over the past month, I would say this bodes well for AU.
As long as nothing NEW that is not presently known comes to light, AU should be in the clear and a lot of people will look like asses.
