We had a death last week roughly 45 miles away. He was elderly, diagnosed, and dead two days later. People like you need to wake up and see what is going on. How many times in your life have you seen these steps being taken because of a virus? There is a reason for that...and it's people far more intelligent than either one of us are saying these steps are needed.
Hey man, I know this is a silly message board, but please don't panic. Do you live in Alabama? If you are not somewhere congested you are probably safe to go to a grocery store and stock up for a few weeks and then just hunker down and be smart when going to work.
Wash your hands regularly, don't get too close to people, etc. This all has been shown to go a long way. Washing your hands will help you, but hand sanitizer will help you in a pinch.
The best thing you can do for your family is make sure they are educated and practicing precautions. I know sometimes the elderly can be silly (I know someone who's 70 year old parents were planning on going on a cruise in a week), but you've got to make sure they take this seriously too.

What if its not spreading but we are just finding it? Then what? We have been living with it and have been fine.

A mortality rate of 8-15% is legitimately concerning. Especially when it applies to 20% of the population (51+ million people).
Yeah, people throw around the 2% but don't really see the breakdowns between age groups and conditions.
I can't believe there are some that are just telling old people not to go to large public events like that is the concern to start with, I guess if we just all lock our grandparents/parents in their homes and let them have no contact with the outside world the younger people get to have fun still.

Florida. I noticed Alabama doesn't have a confirmed case yet.

I live in the heart of the Redneck Riviera.............so this place is eaten up with tourist during summer months and snowbirds during the winter.

I bought a bunch of travel size hand sanitizer last week. Walmart was out of the big stuff. I keep one in my truck and use it before I even touch the steering wheel.
Hopefully they find a cure in a hurry.
ETA I read an article the other day that said they think it could be being passed along through money.

Dude, we know when and how it got here.
Are you suggesting it has been here since before it came from China? Do you know how dumb that notion is?

Yeah, my mother is 79 and there are also many older people that are specifically in the group that does have a high mortality rate from this virus in her community in South Alabama that I care about deeply.
If preventative measures can possibly prevent fans of NCAA tourney teams from bringing the virus back to that community, I am struggling to see any reason whatsoever not to employ them.

The spread of stupidity is the issue here. Apparently there's no stopping that.
