I will say this....while Auburn should not count 2004, they were rooked by not getting a chance to play for it.
Sadly, we never really had a chance. I think USC and Ok were preseason 1 and 2 and held it.
I know the four teams selected these days has flaws, but I still prefer it.

What about future ones? Shouldn’t we count those? JIMBO’s about to real off about 7 or more starting this year, far outpacing BAMA. Even got the trophy’s ready.

Aside from this, people act liek 38 years is some all timer of a record streak. Does it suck? Hell yeah it does, but we're about a top ~12-13 ranked program all time, it's not realistic for us to expect to win a title once per decade. Look at these other droughts:
Texas went 36 years from 1969 - 2005
Auburn went 53 years from 1957 - 2010
Ohio State went 34 years from 1968 - 2002
LSU went 45 years from 1958 - 2003
UF went about 90 years before their first
As you said though, it looks likely that at some point in the near future that drought will end. Then UT will be on the clock.
Hell, UG went 88 years before their first too.

That is insane. No wonder ratings are down as much as they are
You forgot that 2014, 2016, and 2018 also featured Alabama.

Since you went outside theSEC - No team dominated the time period in question like U of Miami with five national championships (1983, 1987, 1989, 1991, 2001 and seven National finalist: (1985, 1986, 1988, 1992, 1994, 2000, 2002)

It would have been interesting to see how it would have turned out. That year is the most telling as to why there should be the top 4 teams.

Miami definitely had a huge and special run, for sure.
But....nobody? Better take a look at 2009-
Alabama's run is still going, and Clemson's is just starting.

Your asses would've been paddled in 2004. Sorry.

Bama is on an impressive run - they have won more NC than UoM in that timeframe however Miami dominated year after year over a 20 year timeframe. They didn’t just win, they whipped the competition. They also won NCs with multiple coaches. I’m not a fan of their program but can’t dismiss their success.

I get what you are saying, but but saying they dominated year after year for 20 years really isn't quite right. (I am starting in 1983, since that was the first year started in the previous post)
1984: 8-5
1993: 9-3
1995: 8-3
1996: 9-3
1997: 5-6
1998: 9-3
1999: 9-4
In the last 10 years, Alabama has lost 3 games once.
Miami never made it 10 years losing 3 games only once, and they went a 6 year period in which they lost 3 or more games every single year.
If you break that 6 year period out (which you should) You actually have two separate periods of domination by Miami, but much shorter.
To match Alabama's record (one 3 loss season out of 10) Miami did it once (1983-1992).
Then when you consider the Titles Alabama has won it becomes that much more impressive and dominating.
But it doesn't stop there. Alabama did it earlier in the Bear bryant days.
From 1959-1968 they went 10 years with one 3 loss season and the rest being 2 or fewer. Then from 1971-1981 (11 seasons) they did it again.
I can't imagine any team doing that on two separate occasions. (I have not looked at Notre Dame in their heyday, though)
ETA
Notre dame went longer, but it was in the early 1900's when they were playing 7-9 games a year.

Ok. I’ll concede on the Bama Miami issue.
Still, I’ve never seen a more thorough beat down of a top tier program than the Miami curbstomp of #2 UTexas in 1991. The 46-3 final score isn’t close to representing how bad an arse whipping was handed down to the Longhorns in the Cotton Bowl that day.
