Hugh has stated that their intention or plan when they came to Oxford was to build a program predicated on a strong defense. First and foremost. I think they're doing that and I think he's right in going that route.

HOWEVER...

This offense we run does no favors to that strong defense and while it's considered a HUNH offense, we have rarely seen it run with any kind of tempo this year. Even with that being considered, we are still going 3 to 5 and out more often than not and losing TOP against quality opponents.

The D is obviously strong and very talented and they hang in there for most of the game but it's been easy to see over the past couple of weeks that they're struggling to maintain momentum in the 4th QTR. Players are getting injured. Cramping up. Unable to really make the difference they want to make having already played close to 30 minutes as we begin to roll into the 4th QTR.

TL;DR: I just don't see how you can have a truly strong SEC defense AND a HUNH offense that is predicated on the pass. If Hugh were to pull it off, he would be the first.

I guess it's "In Hugh We Trust" until it truly becomes a glaring issue. It's probably just the fact that our offensive line is shitty and we have no running game.

Sorry for the long post.

The oline seems to be the issue and the lack of a true running game. If Tunsil is healthy and Golson stayed it might be different. Hugh has done quite about with Ole Miss in my opinion.

With freeze's emphasis on D you would expect him to want a power run mentality to go along with it, but that isn't the case. He seems to want an aTM style O with a Bama/LSU/ UF defense. You can't have it both ways because your team lacks an identity at that point. Just my opinion.

If you guys had a bruiser back you would be about 25% better, that is really lacking. Oline could be a bit better, Def is good.

You're Ole Miss.

You don't reload, you rebuild.

My honest advice to the Ole Miss fan base is just really enjoy this year.

I agree. Ole Miss has an excellent team. Freeze has turned it around. now if he can sustain it.....wow.

Play solid defense and play to your players strengths on offense. That has been LSU's gameplan for 10 years. When we had a QB, we threw. When we had running backs, we ran.

I won't indulge you because I know you're still livid about Quon getting injured. The surgery went well. Carry on.

I don't know what you're down about. He's done a hell of a job with them.

We have no offensive line whatsoever. When we get beat at the line of scrimmage, there's no wonder why our offense sputters. Let's see next year with improved depth on the line, and revisit the issue then.

I recognize that People calls it a HUNH but in reality Ole Miss snaps the ball very late in the play clock seemingly every play correct? But I kind of like how they get to the line fast, analyze the defense, and adjust accordingly.

The lack of quality lineman and run game is the biggest concern if I were an OM fan though. Every time they have struggled offensively it's been bc they have tried to rely on the run from my brief observations.

That's fine. I don't know where things went wrong with us but I'll be here with open arms if you ever decide to give it another chance.

Yeah, Golson really fricked us good by transferring. Auburn even fricks us transitively.

This is the first thing you've ever said that I agree with, and my biggest frustration point with Sumlin.

I hate when posters like sorantable actually post something worthwhile like this.....

I think you're spot on with your analysis. As other's have posted, if Ole Miss got some semblance of a running game (hasn't Bo been the lead rusher the last 2 or 3 games?) then y'all would be better off. Your OL is shite.

Just get you a cornerback or a receiver that just got kicked off another team and let him play quarterback.
