There must be some bad blood between him and Saban. Saban has never once tried to hire Muschamp for any role at Alabama

He did pretty well at AU when he was there.

No, he didn't. Auburn gave up nearly 400 yards a game in 2015.

Won't he likely bolt if he gets offered a DC position another place or will he stay in Athens hoping to get the DC role if Dan Lanning leaves? I heard he has family in Athens.

Muschamp is an enigma. His players like him, but he's incapable of building a culture. At Carolina, his teams never played as a team. He had talent, up until the end, and consistently put guys in the league. But he's absolutely overmatched as a HC. No shame in that, I don't suppose.

What I cannot figure out, though, is despite the talent he had in D, his and TRob's defenses had never looked prepared. They played slow, reactive, bend (then break) defense. I wanted to like the guy. A lot of us did. A lot of Florida fans did, too. But he just...misses something imperative to be a solid all around coach.

Glad he's away from Carolina, but I don't hold ill will towards him. That's reserved for Bobo.

Did they not improve from the previous year though? AU fans speak highly of him.

You don't think being at Auburn for only a year had anything to do with that, do you? he didn't have time to get his own players, or change the culture. I mean, we generally save evaluation on head coaches for longer than 1 year for a reason.

Go back and check his defenses when he was at a school longer than a few months.

His defense at Auburn in 2007 was 7th in the nation, I think.

All that said, when a coordinator becomes a head coach and then goes back to being a coordinator, sometimes the game has passed them by and they are no longer as effective. (Pellini and Brian van Gorder come to mind off the top of my head) I'll reserve judgement on Muschamp IF Lanning leaves and IF Muschamp becomes coordinator.

Plenty of coordinator coaches were great at their job just didn’t work out at HC. I’d saying taking a job at the school you played for and a potential DC in waiting sounds good to me

I mean, in fairness...there have been some that did very well, too. Don't let personal feelings color your opinion. He may do well and he may not. I'm willing to wait and see. I certainly wouldn't declare him a bad coordinator based on his head coaching problems, though.
