when State accomplishes something and fans talk about that then mention Ole Miss

Ole Miss fans do the same thing.
LSU fans do the same thing w/ Bama and A&M (with about 10x the intensity of any other "rivalry").
Bama fans do the same thing w/ LSU and Auburn.
Clemson fans do the same thing w/ South Car.

It's part of college sports, and it's one of the reasons college football is better than NFL. If it upsets you, then you should switch to NFL.

Think about it this way: MSU and Ole Miss are likely never going to get in the playoffs or even win their own division. If they do, it will likely be a one season-in-decades type thing. This reality is true for an overwhelming majority of college football teams in the country.

However, Mississippi State and Ole Miss will always have each other. An 8-win season will never look good compared to what Alabama achieves every season, but if your rival hasn't achieved that in years, it makes that season pretty sweet. Conversely, the bitterness of a losing season can be mitigated with a win over your rival in the most exciting game of the season.

If you don't see the point in these rivalries, then college football honestly isn't for you. You'd be much better off picking a good NFL team and watching that.

Most people cheer for Mississippi State or Ole Miss because they went to that school or had family that did.

Have y'all ever considered putting aside your hate and merging to form one university system? A single AD for MS would be a national power in pretty much every sport

It’s hard to take you people seriously when you cling to farm equipment so religiously

I went to school there. I was born and raised in Mississippi. I still don't see the point of mentioning a rival when an accomplishment is made. Until this changes then my consensus will be that many State fans are obsessed with Ole Miss and can't succeed in anything with mentioning their rival. It will never make sense to me why. Again, I am all for trash talking but not in that type of situation.

Would never happen. The hatred predates football and there’s a lot of politics involved.
Shitty politicians still ultimately pull the strings of the universities, and they care more about nonsense then the well-being of the institutions.

I cannot speak for our fans. Unfortunately every team has bad fans. I will not be one of them. I also don't think LSU is our rival. Maybe 50 years ago but we haven't lived up to our end of that rivalry. Though our games against one another can be fun and heated.

I do think it's a mutual hatred yes. I just don't think we win enough to call it a rivalry. It's definitely heated like one though. Dang you Billy Cannon lol.

Some of our fans don't consider it a rivalry anymore. Otoh I've encountered enough UM fans from living there to relish beating yall now matter how bad you are. Probably varies by proximity. In western Mississippi, I got the impression that Arkansas is a big rival for UM too

I will definitely consider Arkansas one for sure. We go back and forth. Because of that 2015 game we never made it to Atlanta.

auburn fan right? lets look at a comparison of Auburn and Mississippi since 2011...

Average Recruiting ranking:
Auburn- #11
Miss State- #27

Amount of 4 & 5 stars signed:
Auburn- 139
Miss State- 46

NFL draft picks:
Auburn- 38
Miss State- 34

Overall record:
Auburn- (73-45)
Miss State- (70-47)

SEC record:
Auburn- (37-35)
Miss State- (34-38)

Bowl Game appearances:
Miss State- 9
Auburn- 8

Head to head record
Auburn leads 5-4

Take the recruiting stuff out, and you got two programs that are VERYYY comparable over the last decade on paper. It's undeniable. Auburn gets 3 times more blue chip talent than MSU but is a only a wheatie better where it matters, on the field.

So if you are suggesting MSU still sucks, what does that say about Auburn? There is only 1 school that is more delusional than Ole Miss, and that's Auburn, although it is close.

Why leave the year Auburn won a national championship out of the comparison? The year 2010 is part of the decade.
