Texas: One less title than LSU, but slight nod due to total CWS appearances (38, almost 2X runner up USC with 21) , longevity, and stability (4 coaches in 106 seasons from 1911-2016, omitting 3 years in WWII).
Didn't know that. That's honestly impressive as shite to average like 25+ years per coach

USC has the most titles although, their consistent run with 12 titles.
LSU second with 7 but Texas has 6 and more trips to Omaha over a longer period of time so either way 2a and2b
4th id say Miami
5th Florida state even though they’ve never won one. The consistency of getting there is something to consider.

We used to listen to the CWS on radio, 'cause that's all there was.
It was pure baseball. No pretenders ever won the CWS; it was hard, and you had to beat some really good teams and players to win it.
Texas (59-6) won the National Championship in '75, my freshman year. Hooked forever.
I became a Miss St fan in '85. Years later, Will Clark, standing in the on deck circle in the Astrodome, handed me a baseball (for my boys). Got it next to my Reggie Jackson Rookie Card and my '69 Mickey Mantle card.
Mickey & Reggie were my boyhood heroes. I only approached Will, "The Thrill" or "The Natural", Clark because he earned my respect, as a bad arse College Baseball player.
Not an afterthought for me.

California colleges used to swing a big johnson rod in college baseball. The kids out there have been leaving in droves to schools with better fan support. Namely, SEC schools.
USC - the crown jewel of college baseball - can only fit 2,500 people in their park.
I think the only SEC team that couldn't sell that out on a weekly basis is maybe Missouri, and they'd get pretty close during conference play. It's fricking pitiful how little USC and southern California in general values that.

In Kentucky's case, I think this is just a good year, rather than a return on investment. Their coach has been there seven years, and this is only his third time making the postseason at all, let alone the CWS. Maybe he's turning a corner and he'll be a staple in the CWS from now on, but they're probably more like 2022 Oklahoma.

You got the kneejerk downvotes, but you're right. Skip Bertman was hired in 1984. In '86, '87, and '89, he went to the CWS. He won two titles before the mid-90s even started. I only disagree because I think college baseball is just now becoming not an afterthought and still has a long way to go. It was still remarkably niche in the 90s.

I haven’t seen college baseball on NBC, CBS or ABC
CBS had broadcast rights to the CWS in the early 90's and ESPN has been covering it since their inception. It is obviously below football and basketball, but what isn't in college sports? And while it is definitely bigger in certain regions of the country, to call it an afterthought is stupid.

Why are A&M fans so obsessed with LSU?

It’s sad what USC baseball has become. The program deserves to be on Mount Rushmore given the hardware, but it seems like the school has almost abandoned baseball altogether. Which is a pity considering how good the prep baseball scene is in California and how many other schools on the west coast have had a lot of success in the 21st century (UCLA, Oregon St, CSUF, etc)

These are the candidates..
12 USC 21 trips
7 LSU 19 trips
6 Texas 38 trips
5 ASU 22 trips
4 Miami 25 trips
4 Arizona 18 trips
4 CSF 18 trips
The top 3 spots are clear, but the 4th spot is a coin flip imo..
I'd pick Miami just to have one from the East Coast.

List is fine. I dont think baseball didn't matter until the 90s, that is silly.

Coach Ron Polk brought the SEC into the modern era of college baseball. When he became Coach at State in 1976, he worked tirelessly to promote baseball on the high school level, on the college level. He traveled around and conducted clinics, workshops etc. teaching the fundamentals and also letting everyone know that baseball could be a winner with the fans. Today the fanbase at State is a result of what he started.
In the 1980’s Skip Bertman at LSU followed the same road map and LSU soared in baseball.
Now almost every SEC club has a great stadium and loyal fans.
But it all started with Coach Polk almost 50 years ago.

I forgot ASU had 5. I edited my post but the main point was it is very weird to me not seeing west coast powerhouses not having the level of success they used to. I understand why, but damn.

LSU absolutely belongs there, but I’m sure the bentedness is being 3rd. Second, if anything. They would claim first because USC hasn’t been relevant in so long, but a National Monument wouldn’t be specific to the last 30 years.
LSU has been elite for 40 years now. They just didn’t win the first title until ‘91. USC has made 1 regional in the past 2 decades. You also have to take into account that college baseball hasn’t been played nearly as long as college football (at least the CWS era) so the last 40 years is a much more significant chunk of time than in football. I don’t really care because I’m at the perfect age to have seen all of LSU’s titles so I’d still much rather our 7 than USC’s 12 and only seen 1 of them in ‘98. The last one before that was ‘78. USC dominated from 1948 through the late 70’s and stayed near the top through the 90’s and really fell off once LSU became the premier program in the sport and they are truly irrelevant as hell now. I guess you can still have them ahead as of now because 12 is absolutely a good bit more than 7 but after about another decade or so if they’re still irrelevant and LSU has another title or two then I would say it’s pretty clear LSU is #1 at that point depending on what Texas does over that time period as well
