How in the hell did Eddie Lacy get into Bama?
Because all major programs will relax their standards for stud athletes if they meet the NCAA minimums. How do you think Craig Loston got into LSU?

well I know you the ACT minimum is higher for AU than UofA (I use that as an example because I know those two schools requirements and not others. at least it was for years when I went to school there and I just graduated a year ago) so I guess that isn't taken into consideration

I think you're correct about Bama's lower minimum standard. I also think having a higher/lower minimum ACT standard is HORRIBLY overrated and overplayed in measuring the quality of students a school admits too. It assumes that Alabama (for example) is admitting many more students that are barely getting in with a 21 on their ACT compared to Auburn or other schools. I've seen people from other SEC schools dogging Alabama about that as if its a sign that its much easier to get into than their respective school because the minimum just happens to be officially higher. The average incoming ACT score is a much more important number to look at IMHO. I have to admit that Auburn, btw, had a really impressive average ACT in the latest measure. Somewhere just under a 27 average.

if the SC legislature would have rechartered the College of Charleston as the State's Flagship university in 1801, which would have allowed it to be a D-1 program w/ football, it would have easily made #1 on the list. same as if LSU was in New Orleans. but since LSU was moved from Pineville, Louisiana had the foresight to find a more suitable campus location. USC was established adjacent to the State Capital in Columbia, which limited how it could grow and caused some of the facilities like Williams-Brice to be placed off campus.

if we had an 85k seat stadium overlooking the Ashley River in Charleston where the state relocated The Citadel, we'd have the most selective school in America even if our academics were crap. we'd never get Todd Blackledge to leave after doing a Taste of the Town.

True, but you could say that about a lot of SEC schools. If Tennessee was in Nashville, UGA was in Savannah, LSU in New Orleans like you mentioned, Alabama or Auburn in the Fairhope/Gulf Shores area, Ole Miss or MSU in Biloxi. Heck, if University of Alabama simply had "satellite" campuses in Birmingham and Huntsville the way many major universities are set up in other states instead of a university "system" then the Univ of Alabama would be in the Top 40 among all schools in research funding.

Good find. I would like to see Alabama bump up their minimum to 23 like most of the SEC schools have. I still don't think it's as quite a big deal as people make it out to be but it would slightly raise the level of the borderline students. I think it will happen once UA reaches the enrollment goals it has set.

I know they used objective criteria, but Vandy isn't "more selective" than Duke. Duke is harder to get into than some Ivies. Also, for someone applying without in-state or a legacy, UVA is probably the most selective #1 on that list.

I've always thought open admissions was a better approach.

Let everyone in, and then weed them out.

I don't think that many applicants to South Carolina take the ACT. When I went to school there, the SAT was the standard.

Those ranking match up with my application process last year. They are in the same ordered with where I got in too and how much money I got from each school. And I'm out of state for all those schools, so none of it is skewed by one of them being my instate school.

AU did away with those as well as much of the tutoring programs it had in place as well. AU faces a very big uphill battle to keep players eligible compared to other SEC programs, save for Vandy.

How AU is rated so low in this is amazing, I've personally known several people trying to get in now that can't but were accepted with the same scores at UGA and UA.
