That was a separate contract.

Our old AD used to sell home SEC games. We hosted Florida in Orlando once.
Sort of like Tennessee playing a road game against Wyoming in Nashville a few years back, but a confeeence game.
Florida killed one of our players in that game.

Here's some strange Bama road games from the 1980's:
1980 @Rutgers(Giants Stadium)- I remember ABC breaking into this one at the end. Bama held on 17-13, but it was strange seeing the Bear at the Meadowlands.
1983@ Boston College(Foxboro Stadium)- this game was played on the Friday after Thanksgiving and Flutie and BC won like 20-13 at the end.
1984 @ Cincinnati(Riverfront Stadium)-Bama's first losing season since the 50's, but they easily won this November battle
1987 @ Memphis State-Bama lost 13-10 and went back in 91 and barely won 10-7.
1988 @Temple(Veterans Stadium)-Bama killed Temple 37-0 to open the year.
Bama loved them some NFL stadiums in the 80's. Always looked weird seeing Bama in these venues.

What the hell does that have to do with Bama playing at NFL stadiums in the 80's? I didn't post that to make Bama look bad I just remember those games and how strange it seemed.

Not as strange as an SEC team playing UMass in an empty NFL stadiums

That's probably the best explanation I've heard for why Alabama would end up playing a game at Rajun Cajun Stadium.
Coach Bryant had promised them a home game when they agreed to several games at Bama during the 80s. The game was just Bama making good on an old promise.

Alabama also played @ Duke in 2010. I know about the Wallace Wade connection but that was still pretty weird.
Supreme example of "You better get it in writing". Original agreement was for Duke to play the first game at Bama and the second game at a neutral site. Preferably Atlanta or Charlotte.
First game was played at Bama in 2006. Second game was delayed because if Ted Roof was your coach and you had won 6 games in 5 years you would be delaying a game with Bama also. Probably hoping that Bama would buy out of the game.
When Cutcliffe took over in 2008, he insisted the game be played at Duke. And so it was.

AU played them during the dwight freeny years
That was the first sporting event in NY after 9/11. A bunch of politicians showed up for the game. And of course the obligatory parade of pension-gobbling upstate firefighters and policemen. I remember the announcers saying, "were all Syracuse fans tonight". LOL.
I guess Dwight Freeney was moved by the scene because he invaded our backfield all night.

Pretty sure the Hawaii thing is still in place and has been used since Bama used it. It just doesn't get used as much any more with 12 regular season games and most conferences having a ccg. If used during 13 week regular seasons, it would mean no bye week.

Yeah an embarssment to Michigan. 52-14 2011 Gator Bowl. LOL

Auburn might have the most Fringe fanbase in the SEC. They are so obsessed and sad to lose to Alabama that they try to make themselves feel better by comparing them to MSU. If memory serves correctly Auburn lost the only top 5 matchup that ever mattered in that series.
