I see a lot of "offense", and "defense", but no stats for special teams. I don't diminish offensive and defensive stats, but LSU has been nearly perfect in that area, which is one third of the game of football. And special teams has been the difference in nearly every game we have played, whether it be field position from a great punt, to getting turnovers on punts and kickoffs, and being nearly automatic in field goals, because we have the best kicker in America.
In the most important stat in determining wins and losses in meaningful games, turnover margin, we are ahead of.. ahem.. Alabama. Being that LSU has played a significantly tougher schedule, and has played in a lot of high pressure moments, where Alabama hasn't, I would go as far as saying Alabama's turnover margin is "overrated," and padded by the weaker teams they play. LSU has protected the ball, and forced turnovers against good teams, whereas the teams that Alabama plays have not been very good, so they probably turn the ball over anyway against any team they play, and are likewise unable to force turnovers, so Alabama benefits from that.
So no. LSU is not the most overrated #3 team of all time. I would go as far as saying Alabama could possibly be overrated as a #1 team.
