A&M had the #6 AD by revenue last year (ahead of LSU) and that was with the Big 12 buyout essentially making us have no TV money. The new Kyle is a money machine waiting to happen with a massive increase in luxury seating (all of which is already sold out btw with 15 year leases). The money is there to compete with anyone.

Also, no it is not the same as when A&M was in the Big 12. In the Big 12 A&M was not nearly as committed to facilities and football as it is now. We lagged badly behind Texas and OU after allowing them to jump over us in the late 90's. We also did not have the advantage of being the ONLY SEC team in Texas and we don't have Dennis Franchione as our head coach.

Beyond that though, this is the longest stretch in A&M football history without a conference title. Odds of it continuing much longer are unlikely. The last time A&M made this level of commitment as when we made Jackie Sherrill the 1st million dollar coach in CFB, added a 3rd deck to Kyle, and built the best strength facility in CFB at the time. That led to 20 straight non losing seasons, 7 Conference Titles, and complete dominance over our then rival Texas over that period. The commitment now and the resources now are even greater.

Really, nobody gives a shite about your money. Win a championship on the field and then talk. Until then, feel free to be silently confident.

I'm not talking revenue. You don't want to compare financials with LSU and how we operate I assure you. We make money.

I get the feeling Spurrier is grooming his son to take over for him once he retires.

Worked out for Texas Tech basketball with the Knights.

quote:

In 2005, Pat Knight was designated to succeed his father as head coach of the Texas Tech Red Raiders, assuming that role on February 4, 2008 when Bob Knight retired.[6] Knight has used the motion offense and man-to-man defense, both of which he learned from his father as a player at Indiana and as an assistant coach.[7]

After taking the head coaching job midseason, his initial two games were defeats on the road. The first was an 80–74 loss to Baylor on February 6, 2008. The second came three days later at Nebraska. Knight's first head coaching win came at home when the Red Raiders upset #18 Kansas State, 84–75, at United Spirit Arena. Going into the game, KSU was in sole possession of first place in the Big 12.[8] The win came on what had earlier been declared Pat Knight Day by Lubbock mayor David Miller.[9] On March 1, 2008, the Red Raiders again defeated the top team in the conference by beating #5 Texas, 83–80, ending a month-long, eight-game winning streak for the Longhorns.[10][11]

The Red Raiders finished the regular season with back-to-back losses, first at Kansas and then to Baylor. At the 2008 Big 12 Men's Basketball Tournament, they added another loss—to Oklahoma State—in the first round. The team did not receive an invitation to play at either the NCAA Men's Division I Basketball Championship or at the National Invitation Tournament. Texas Tech did get an invitation to the inaugural College Basketball Invitational, but declined the offer.[12]

In the third game of the 2008–09 season, Tech defeated Division II opponent East Central University 167–115, setting a new school record for most points scored in a game. The previous record of 128 was set in the double overtime victory over Texas on February 20, 1994. The combined total of 282 points also became a new record.[13][14]

During the 2008–09 season, Knight was reprimanded twice for altercations with officials. In a home game against Nebraska, Knight ran on to the court to argue with officials after Texas Tech player Alan Voskuil was called for a foul. After receiving two technical fouls, Knight was ejected from the game. Once in the tunnel, Knight ran back onto the court to continue arguing.[15] Knight was not suspended, rather receiving a public reprimand from the Big 12 Conference.[16] Knight was then suspended one game for his criticism of officiating in a game against Texas A&M.[17][18]

On March 7, 2011, Texas Tech fired Pat Knight.[2]

Overall at Tech: 50-61
Yeah, not so much.

USCe is very likely in the near future...but seriously...A&M with our built in recruiting advantage over the other non big 6 teams is going to make it a big 7 one day soon.

Yeah, how'd that built in recruiting advantage work out for you in the Little 12?

I think it's Texas A&M first. South Carolina second. Arkansas third.

See aggressor's comment above. Didn't have a recruiting advantage in the B12...we do now.

Do you really? Or did it really double the LSU influence in Texas?

Poor ole Arky can't catch a break. They were so close.

They do have pretty building though so there's always that.

I think this thread was about the future though.

That poster said that odds of actually winning the SEC from a non-big 6 team in his opinion were greater for aTm and USC over Arky.

That's a reasonable postulation IMO given the current state of each team.

Arky just had a miserable season, hired a coach that is mad about SEC recruiting tactics and is basically starting over climbing the ladder.

South Carolina or A&M. They are the only two non "Big 6" schools with the recruiting base necessary to compete consistently.

This year, sure, but we both know that isn't going to happen.

JFF will be gone and aggy will again be aggy, SOS is closer to retirement every day.

Arkansas has proven over the past 20 years to have the best shot, consistently, of winning the title outside of the big6.

I'm not really sure how you can say that considering that A&M, in our first SEC season, matched Arkansas' best record and final ranking in their time in this conference. Additionally, USC is coming off a better three year stretch than you guys have had in a quarter century.

In 21 SEC seasons, Arkansas has won more than eight games just five times. Meanwhile, you've won four or less six times and finished .500 or below 10 times. I really don't see how that resume reads "consistency" in any form or fashion.

One could more easily say Arky has returned to being Arky, seeing as A&M has a better all-time winning % with more national titles, conference titles, Heisman winners and consensus AAs. But hey, you've got that head to head
