Penny Hardaway was so good before he got hurt.

Most embarrassing NCAAT loss? It would have to be, for the Gamecocks, their #2 seed loss to Richmond or their #3 seed loss to - hell, I put it out of my mind to ease the pain. I forget who. I think it was back to back years in the 90s under Eddie Fogler. Hell, if only Kevin Garnet and Jermaine O'Neal had not left early to go to the pros we would have won the National Championship that #2 seed year ... crap. This thread drug-up some bad memories.

It was Coppin State in 97 (15 seed)
Richmond in 98 (14)

And KG wasn't coming here, he was chosing between Michigan and Maryland when he was a recruit, but failed to get a qualifying ACT score

That crap game was the reason we've all heard of Valpo.

LSU- California

Really ? To Jason Kidd at the buzzer and then California beat Duke in the next round?

LSU has had a bunch, but the 1985 blowout vs Navy takes the cake.

Alabama's to Lamar in '83 was bad , Tennessee's to SW Missouri in '99 was horrible.

Manhattan over UF by 15 in 2004 was embarrassing. Shouldn't have never happened.

David Vaughn was Larry Finch's nephew, so he probably didn't have to do much to sign him

Thanks, right, Coppin State and Richmond.

With regard to KG I'd have to disagree. Eddie Fogler told a few of us personally, not long ago, that KG was committed to SC but never had any intentions of playing his college ball anywhere once he left Mauldin and headed to Farragut where the AAU guys and agents got their hands on him.

Additionally, there are photos floating around of KG wearing Gamecock hats on several different occasions ... not that it means anything, but it is what it is.

I guess we'll never know for sure friend. :D

Actually, Tennessee's arguably is the 1976 first round loss to VMI. The East was incredibly easy that year and Tennessee had just missed tying for the SEC title so they were shipped to the East and not in the then natural region the Mideast. This was with Ernie and Bernie and Mike Jackson.Tennessee should have mopped the floor with them and advanced to the East final. VMI won 81-75.

Kentucky has had some clunkers like MTSU in 1982 and UAB in 1981. But IMO its hard to beat the beatdown by Western Kentucky in the 1971 Mideast Regional semifinal in Athens,Ga. Like playing Louisville, Rupp and UK had refused to play Western forever. Western had a great team and did make it to the Final Four but they just destroyed UK 107-83.

Vandy's first round loss to Sienna by 20 in 2008 was bad but for pure humiliation, the 1974 Mideast Regional consolation game loss to Notre Dame, 118-88 is hard to top.

I'd say one of the Brady first round blowouts

Cal had Jason Kidd
Navy had David Robinson
UTEP had whatshisname

UAB had no one
Purdue had no one

Actually the most embarrassing loss by Arkansas was vs St John's. Coach Sutton behind the bench yelling at people in second half. I had blocked that from my mind.

The loss to Virginia was bad also, year after Sampson had left.

UGA lost to UTC in 1997. Can't remember the seeding though. Maybe 14-3? That was bad.

my bad meant to say after his senior year.

I too heard after his Junior year SC was "favored" but after the whole incident at Mauldin that fell through.
