or maybe it's because there weren't an influx of LSU players in the NFL until more recently than 1980. What's more surprising is why Alabama only has 6 more players than LSU?

This has already been done. Georgia has 3, Alabama has 2, 3 others have 1 (Tennessee, Ole Miss, Texas A&M). Keep in mind this is for different players who have won 1 or more Super Bowl MVP award.

Arkansas has 2 Super Bowl-winning coaches, A&M has 1.
