7 straight NC's by 4 different teams or 6 straight Omaha finals by 5 different teams (UGA, LSU, USC(3X), Florida, Miss. St.)?

Which speaks more to the dominance of a sport? Which is more impressive?

I think there's a good argument that the baseball run is even more impressive considering the parity in baseball today, the complete changing of the game with the new bats during that time, and the fact that it is an actual, bona fide 64 team playoff.

Given that UGA has had time to completely meltdown as a program since then and the SEC is still in it is cool.

Plus, getting to Omaha is less a popularity contest than football and more a grueling challenge starting with regular season play, conference tournaments, regional placement, and super regionals.

7 straight titles vs 6 straight CHANCES at the title....

This is an easy answer, regardless of parity. Going though the SEC schedule in football and staying on top is no small feat itself. Add the title game at the end and it's just insane that we have done it 7 years in a row.

I agree. The fact that college football is such a hugely popular sport (I've heard it referenced as the second most popular in the country) makes it seem "bigger," but the nature of baseball being a streaky sort of game and the fact that you play your way there out of 64 instead of being hand-picked is what puts it over the football run IMO.

I think this makes it easier for baseball, not more difficult.

Imagine the top 25 teams having a playoff in CFB. At least five of them would be SEC teams, would the SEC ever lose another National Title?

6 Straight Omaha Finals. SEC football is dominant and has a clear advantage. Omaha is a level playing field.

Football by a long shot. To make it that far in football, you have to truly be one of the best teams. You have to win almost every game you play in the regular season.

Exactly. Unlike baseball, the 5th best team in the SEC won't even play in a BCS game much less the NC game. You have to be perfect for the most part through the entire season.

This is spot on. Someone said that our conferences dominance over the sport of football makes it less impressive!?!? That is beyond stupid. It makes it MORE impressive that we are THAT dominant over the sport s a whole.

Sounds to me like y'all have just gotten so used to winning that it doesn't impress you anymore. Thats a sad state to be in as a fan. It's called complacency and Saban fights it at every corner for a reason. It's evil.

Football, baseball is all about getting hot at the right time. You don't need to be the best team in the conference to win it, look at MSU

Wow. Nobody is saying either isn't impressive. The question is which is more impressive.

I think one is based largely on perception, even though I do agree that the perception is earned. But I also think that the SEC has benefited from quite a bit of circumstance in certain teams losing at JUST the right time for an SEC team to be able to play for it. Once the momentum of 2 or 3 in a row built up across the country it snowballed. It still doesn't discount winning the game, but being the beneficiary of circumstance isn't what makes it impressive. Being the beneficiary of human perception, even if earned, isn't what makes it impressive.

I think its a close call. You really have to weigh winning that one huge, hyped up football game vs. going on a 7-8 game run in baseball with your season on the line against the best and hottest teams in a SR and in Omaha.

The nature of baseball, however, with bad hops and streaky hitters, I think having a 6th straight finals is a lot more impressive than some are giving credit for... and I think it's largely because we are weighing it based on how hugely popular the sport of football is and that shouldn't be considered.

Exactly, so what does that say about the SEC having 5 teams in 6 years???

That's exactly my point. The nature of baseball makes it even harder to go on a run like that.

The west coast is better than us in baseball, so the CWS run is more impressive.

You misunderstand. Both are very impressive. I never implied that the baseball streak wasn't impressive, I just feel that the football streak is MORE impressive and in my opinion, it isn't really close.

Hell, one year, the sec was SO dominant, we occupied BOTH slots in the championship game, and almost every year, we have at least 2, sometimes 3 teams vying for a spot in the game.

That type of dominance is about as impressive as it gets in sports.
