Fine. I gave you a chance.
So your football team is 14 points worse than Kansas State, Iowa State, and Texas Tech.

Sounds like Mizzou should be suing Ole Miss.
Same exact thing happened with Lacy.

So this is what it will come down to. Wilson essentially claiming he didn’t understand what he was signing and big bad UGA pressuring him to do so.
All athletic departments will be watching this closely as I’m sure the retention of most of their rosters come down to similar agreements that a student athlete could just claim in hindsight he didn’t understand.
Are there no similar cases with signing day letters of intent?

So he took $390,000 nil money from UGA and then enters the portal the next week? All things aside, that speaks a lot of who he is.
He took $30,000 and you hillbillies are trying to get liquidated damages of $390,000.
They also told teams that he had a buyout of $1.2M, which was bullshite.

The liquidated damages part is bullshite. He never got that money. I've spent a career dealing with executive compensation. The general rule is if the exec breaks the contract, he pays back the funds that have been advanced but not yet earned and forfeits any other stock or options granted but not vested.
However, what you are not taking into consideration is that the monies the collective put forward could have been put toward another recruit, but once allocated to Wilson the money was, in the mind of the collective spent, whether it was paid out or not.
If they put aside $20 million for NIL offers and players sing the agreement, the collective would stop offering money, then once the recruits bolt, other players have been lost causing damages to the collective/University.
In the case you want to compare it to, it is also not unusual for those contracts to have a non-compete clause in them. I would say that Wilson, in playing for another school in the same conference certainly was competing.
The red flag comes in when his lawyers try to use the "This won't help their recruiting!" excuse, trying to get the university to back down with insinuations that the actions would harm the university. That alone tells me they are grasping at straws and know they have no leg to stand on. IF (Notice the "if") the kid signed a contract, then he should be held accountable, otherwise no school or collective should have them sign a contract.
LSU had to give Kelly money because they terminated a contract early without cause. When a contract is not fulfilled there are always damages.

Probably. But I am equally sure he had a representative (agent or lawyer) at the time. For him to sign a paper...any paper...with hundreds of thousands of dollars in the wording without having his agent/lawyer look at it is not a good look for him intelligence wise. Crap...Shaquille O'Neill signed a $30 Million contract when he was 19, so ignorance because of inexperience or age is hardly an excuse. And...NOBODY should be signing any contracts without having someone look it over first.

Agreed, sadly most liberal judges will not.

It’s really impossible to opine with any certainty without reading the agreement and as you say “if” anything was actually signed.
But speculating, taking these two arguments separately, if the kid just decided he just didn’t want to play football and decided to take a job at McDonald’s instead, do you think UGA would prevail in pursuing liquidated damages?
But that’s not the case, and as you point out he’s playing for another school in the same conference. That smacks of a non-compete clause. Non-competes have been getting clobbered in the courts. And when they are upheld it’s usually because the employee took revenue producing clients with him. I can’t see a judge enforcing one against a college kid. Plus, the schools want desperately not to have the athlete viewed as an employee.
This solution needs to come through legislation of some sort with the SCOTUS ruling out there. I think the recent lawsuit settlement did not adequately address NIL going forward.

Or literally any judge outside of the USA where lawyers picking on unrepresented parties is frowned upon.

Not really sure how it’s gonna end up but if this wasn’t mizzou involved, their fans would agree, these kids shouldn’t be signing contracts to play at a school and when a slimy other school just comes in with a lump of money the kid just dips with not enough time to even fill his spot with a transfer.

For the only time in my life I will be pulling for georgie in this. Someone needs to stop at least some of this insanity.

Recruiting has become like buying a car from your phone.
Set the filters. Set the price range. New or used. Look at the thumbnail & hit PURCHASE.
These kind of legal situations are only gonna get spicier

So much F you to this kid and his camp. He’s what’s wrong with society and college footballs I hope he loses and the counter suit is won by Georgia and he has to pay back with interest.
This is the perfect example of what’s killing this sport

Don’t misunderstand me! I’m not saying this is the proper outcome! We got skin in this the other way in other current ant potential future situations, I’m only speculating on the facts on this one instance (without many at that), UGA’s got a loser on this one.
This needs to be fixed!

Why do you hang around simply to post inane comments when others are having a reasonable discussion?
I bet if you get invited to family Christmas gatherings, your relatives don’t bring up interesting and substantive topics in front of you because
they know you’ll torpedo the conversation with childish comments.
Here’s a couple of wishes for you…
1. Merry Christmas
2. Don’t be an arse when your relatives are having intelligent discussions!
