Absolutely right. Mizzou's parking arrangement is really a detriment to the tailgating scene in Columbia. Hopefully they will come up with a good solution to remedy that. The proposed Tiger Town in the downtown area is a start, but it seems awfully far away from the stadium.
Yea. Something needs to be done. I like the "Tiger Town" Idea but it needs to be followed up with some meaningful improvements as well as getting some of the businesses that are against the idea on board.

For the longest time, the city and the University tried to curb the tailgating scene. I will never understand that. I think the only reason we don't talk about Mizzou's tailgate being an unreal experience is because of self-inflicted wounds from stupid University policies.

No doubt about it!
Its amazing really. For so long the University Administration was its own worst enemy and shot itself in the foot with EVERYTHING involving athletics.

Hence our athletics program. Up until the mid-90's ish, we were our own worst enemy in college sports. we've been playing catch up for the last 10 years as a result.

You have to admit it's better now, though. I just think it feels a little disjointed because every parking area close to the stadium is promised to the older donors who give the most money. There's really no land close to the stadium to do anything cool either. I would love to be able to completely redesign the entire sports complex in terms of space usage.

As for Italian food, Charlie Gittos is the place and is as good as it gets....New York level Italian food. As for gambling, go to the Lumiere Place Downtown versus Harrah's, I think you have a better time personally, and the distance between the two isn't that great.

If you want to gamble in St. Charles I'd go with Ameristar over Harrah's otherwise I'd go to Lumiere in downtown St. Louis.
Ameristar

Lumiere

The area next to the Lumiere Casino called the Landing.

For food,
The Hill really does have some great Italian food. You can pick almost any restaurant it's hard to go wrong there.

If you want BBQ Pappy's Smokehouse is the best in STL. Ribs are what they do best but the other stuff is good too.

If you like the show Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives they visited a bar in south city called Iron Barley. I've eaten here twice and both times the place lived up to it's reputation.
Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives: Iron Barley
If you want Steak. Citizen Kane's Steakhouse in Kirkwood is really good.

Another good spot for food is the Schlafly Tap Room. Schlafly is the second largest brewery in St. Louis after AB.

It's probably to far out of your way but if you drive to up to Alton, IL there is a famous bar there with really cheap but good food called Fast Eddies.
Fast Eddie's Bon Air RoadHouse Food Network
If you want frozen custard Ted Drews is a long time local favorite in STL.

For Tourist type things you've probably already got that covered with the usual stuff. Arch, Forest Park, Brewery Tour, Science Center Omnimax, City Museum, and so on.

Forrest Park is bigger than Central park, just not as famous

Come on bro, I helped you out earlier, and I usually don't help Georgia fans.

I am thinking about making this trip as well since the Falcons schedule came out. Looked up some pricing on expedia, and looks like I could fly into KC Friday, and leave on Monday, rental car included for around $600. Of course that doesn't include price of tix, food, entertainment. I'd say overall it would cost around around a grand (conservative estimate).

To the OP, your schedule looks like a kick arse itinerary. I would certainly shoot for that!
Some other comments having lived, gone to school and spent a ton of time in BOTH places:
Chiefs tailgate scene dominates
STL is a better town overall,
KC is a better football/basketball scene,
STL is immensely better baseball scene.
The '85 Series was a robbery.

Really? I've always heard Central Park was the biggest city park in the US, followed by Forest Park. Either way, Forest Park is awesome.
GatorNDAhood - You're right, Charlie Gitto's is awesome, it's my second favorite. Can't go wrong there.

Main thing learned by OP: St.Louis and KC people can and will bicker with each other if you mention both cities as potential destinations for anything.
Us Columbia, MO born and raised folks meanwhile will just say yes to both and I always loved making the trip from CoMo to either city. The fact you will get to take in the top pro sports experience in each of those cities is truly an OUTSTANDING itinerary and I think you will have a great overall Missouri experience.
As a Columbia dude I will just pimp Booche's and Shakespeare's as the places you should try to hit in the limited time you have there for the Mizzou-UGA game itself.

Big bump, but are there still rooms in Columbia? Me and a friend just decided to make the same trip although driving and skipping the Cards.

I'm not sure but I kind of doubt it. If you can't find a room in Columbia there are options close by that might have rooms.
Kingdom City is about 20 minutes east of Columbia
Jefferson City (state capitol) is about 30 minutes south of Columbia
Boonville (has a casino) is about 25 minutes west of Columbia
Another option for Georgia fans since the game is early in September. Any of you guys coming up might want to check out the Lake of the Ozarks. Depending on where you stay down there it is only an hour to an hour and a half south of Columbia, there should be plenty of rooms with the season winding down, and the weather and water should still be warm enough to enjoy.

Thanks. Hopefully we can get this finalized and start looking for a room. I'm really hoping to find something close by as neither one of us is going to want to drive after the game and we kind of want to see the college atmosphere in Columbia.
Gambling sounds like a solid back up though.
And Columbia is fairly green friendly right?
