Were Alabama and Auburn ever at war with each other? I mean, REAL WAR, as in shooting each other and dead people?

Mizzou v. KU may not be the biggest rivalry in NCAA sports, but don't act like there is a single rivalry (the fricking longhorns included) that is more real or "WORSE" than one that involved armed conflict.

Our rival is literally founded on a real life war. We shot and killed each other. We burned each other's towns to the ground. We hate each other's states, people, and anything associated with them. There may be more competitive and more exciting rivalries in America, but there is NO rivalry that can touch the blood boiling hatred of MU-kU

Not better or worse, just different. Based on different things. Bama/Auburn is a great rivalry based on sports. Mizzou/kU is based on generations of hate and grudges that stemmed from the civil war and over time just festered. They burned the town of Oceola, MO to the ground after killing and raping people and stealing everything they could carry back to Lawrence. Missourians then burned Lawrence to the ground after killing every man they could find there. It was ugly and brutal, and spawned generations of people who hate each other to this day. Sports is where it manifests today, but it's basically a 160 year old blood feud.

Says a troll whose team won't be playing in March. Unless you count the NIT. After the beatdown in COMO we can resume discussion on Razorback Basketball

Will he be eating the local food dish named after him (pizza or whatever it is) while he is watching Mizzou in the NCAA tourney on TV?

good info here

in synopsis i guess:
mizzou/ku = blood feud
bama/aubie = sports feud

sounds like in the sports world bama/auburn is a greater rivalry then...

Hell no, never sold any, not with the Mizzou logo on em I'm not that dumb. Mizzou would have rightfully sued the crap outta me. I made exactly five of them for me and my friends, still have two hanging in my closet. My buddy was dumb enough to pose for that picture and then upload it on the Mizzou message board (TB) without thinking maybe a ku lurker or two would see it. Next thing I know people are all asking me how to buy it and the Wall Street Journal was trying to interview me for their article on the 2007 Border War game at Arrowhead. Some other people did knockoff shirts without the logo that are still sold on cafepress to this day, but that shirt with the logo on it there are still only five in existence and I didn't put any of 'em into interstate commerce.

That said, yeah the demand was such I would have made a pretty penny at the time if I had.

I'd call that very fair. We don't have an in-state rival so we can't really give a frame of reference, but ku does in K-State and this is how one of the former kansas coaches described it:

"Kansas State is our rival. Missouri is our enemy."

In terms of sports rivalry, football wise Bama-Auburn has always and will always be light years better. The *only* time Mizzou-kansas was at least momentarily as relevant was our #2 vs #4 meeting in 2007 when the winner was assured of moving up to #1. But with Bama-Auburn that's as common as can be. It's a better football sports rivalry.

Mizzou-kansas is a way better basketball rivalry, and not just due to ku's traditional national power role. The game finishes between Mizzou-ku and in Columbia in particular feature a whole lot of thrilling situations over the years - you name a nutty late game situation and it tends to have probably happened between Mizzou and ku. Take last year in our final year in the Big 12 for example - Mizzou wins in Columbia 74-71 by rallying from 8 points down in the final 2 minutes; kansas wins in Lawrence 87-86 in overtime after rallying from 19 points down in the second half. That's drama that is difficult to replicate. And the decibel level and fan nuttiness at either venue in hoops is always insane and whatever national commentators who are doing the game invariably come away saying "whoa" with regard to the atmosphere. Some quick examples of commentator statements about Mizzou-ku basketball games:

"I don't remember ever being in a louder building in 25 years." - Fran Fraschilla

"Gawd, that might have been as loud and great an atmosphere as I've ever experienced at a basketball game. One of the greatest ever." - Hubert Davis (who played in the Duke-North Carolina hoops rivalry)

Good assessment. Missouri vs kansas goes MUCH farther beyond just sports. It's basically in every facet of life.

OK, I'd forgotten how that all went down! I didn't post on TB at that time, just lurked occasionally and remember seeing the shirt. That sure rustled some jimmies back in 2007!

I doubt the University would have allowed the logo to be used on something so controversial.

Lets also not forget that Mizzou vs kansas is almost always listed in ESPN's top college basketball rivalries as "Most Hate-Filled", Although Bama and Auburn have a better football rivalry for sure.

Don't forget either, that basically everyone in the SEC was allies with their "rival" at one point in time. We've been fighting against our rival since before they existed.
