Mizzou & Kansas were still fighting the Civil War when Mizzou decided to bail; a war that ended 148 years ago and that hatred revolved around the comparable paltry sport of basketball.
Bama & Auburn is a living, breathing, 24/7, 365-day life form of having to exist within the same boundaries of state, workplace, church or within divided families. It's often a complex balancing act of remaining civil on the surface while masking a deep dislike, distrust and even seething hatred of each other. Beyond that, it's a lot of entertainment and fun.

You just described life living in Kansas City, my friend. See, you understand somewhat, just apply it to us.

I've lived in Alabama for seven years now, and the fans that feel/act this way are in an extreme minority - they just voice it more than the comparatively overwhelmingly large group that are just fans and have a healthy dislike for the opposing school. They had a sounding board with Finebaum that gave the rivalry a little more attention and it got talked about as something larger than it is.
That said, I know some crazy fans. Most of the crazies just hate the other school, though, not the people who are fans of it. I've never seen fights or anything break out over it - even at seedy bars in Birmingham and Mobile where the fans are relatively mixed and wasted. I got ran off the road by some bammers when I had an LSU sticker on my bumper once, though.

A big part of the Missouri-Kansas rivalry is that people who have no connection to either school, or are fans and alums of other schools, still don't like the other state.
For example, K-Staters that I know don't like Missouri. I have family in Missouri that doesn't care much about college sports, and don't care if Mizzou is good at anything, but they still dislike the state of Kansas. The Missouri-Kansas rivalry goes far beyond sports.

From what I have gathered from research, There is nothing civil with the Ku/Mizzou rivalry. It is a hatred that goes way beyond sports and has a violent history.

And pretty sure we both still hate each other.
Not saying it's better or worse, it's just deep seeded and will never go away because it's not rooted in sports as was said. My kids won't even say the name. My son, when he was younger, had a test to name all of the states and when he got to kansas, he just wrote wasteland. He figured it was ok if he got one wrong. Personally, I thought the answer was correct. Unfortunately, his teacher is a kU alum.

Looks like a lot of people don't understand Mizzou/ku has very little to with sports. Sports is just the most notable event where the hate is manifested publicly.
If it weren't for sports, auburn/bama people would get along fine. Without sports, Missourians and kansans still hate each other.

Did Bama/Auburn have a 10 year war?
Were any cities burned to the ground between Bama/Auburn?

The only difference is that a lot of MU people have other things in their life (Cardinals, decent jobs, ect) Bama people are totally consumed with Bama football 24/7. But otherwise that sums up the dislike between MU/KU.
