Good for the young man.
I hate to think someone was trying to cash in on his soon to be piles of money by blackmailing him and forced him to come out. It takes a lot of courage for him to take his life and story into his own hands and let the world know who he loves has no impact on how he plays football.
And to all the "it's disgusting and wrong" assholes, he doesn't want to kiss you, he doesn't want to convert you, he doesn't want to break up your marriage, he just wants to be able to go on a date and love who he wants WITHOUT it becoming fricking breaking news on ESPN.
I, for one, don't think that's unreasonable or some boogie man "liberal agenda".
All you fools grossed out by gay guys are the last ones that have to worry - they wouldn't look twice at your fat, fashion challenged, redneck asses.
Love you BamaChick

Good for Sam
. The media will make this a much bigger deal than any NFL locker room, too bad this thread is too long to go through to see all the dumbass posts I'm sure were in it.

He's a queer. Who cares? What does this have to do with us?

have you seen this thread? Did you not see the MSU player call him less of a man?
No one in this thread, nor the MSU player are in the NFL where he'll have not only protection for the league brand but legal protection as well. It will be in everyones best interest to protect him.

As long as he's not sucking dick on a float in the middle of the Rose Bowl parade IDGAF

I simply called him a narcissist. The reactions by a few here, have been worse than the reactions they guy got for coming out. Intolerance is strong on this issue. Just not from the ones yall want to think it is from.

Saving that for his Grammy award guest appearance next season.

You said he did it to control the narrative. If he didn't want it out, he could have said no comment. As it is, he made an effort to get it out and let it be known. He made a narcissistic decision to purposely point out his sexual orientation. If it's not a big deal to him, then why even address it or comment on it?
Hunter, I think this is his way of getting it out of the way. Because he didn't choose to live his life in the closet, it was becoming known. Someone in the media was getting ready to make a story of it. So, he decided to tell the story himself. He gave 2 interviews, to the NYT and to ESPN, and will give no more. He basically put the rumors to rest, said yes, I'm a college graduate, I'm African American, I'm gay and I want to play football in the NFL. By getting ahead of the story, he is probably shortening its life in the media cycle. This will let him focus on football, which is what he wants to do. It's really no more complicated than that.

Didn't he out himself to his team already? Suddenly he's got a need to not be shamed about it and has to go out nationally to "set the record straight"? He's still gay, either way, is he not?
Hunter, Sam agrees with you but unfortunately, the society we live in today dictates otherwise. You don't have to look further than this thread, twitter or listening to ESPN to figure out why he spoke out.

They were going to anyway, Sam's sexual orientation was a badly kept secret. Now he is afforded some measure of protection.
You don't think it would be a huge PR disaster for a locker room to turn on the guy? Hell, did you see what happened to Icognitio for his fake bullying?
It will be in the leagues best interest and the teams best interest to protect him.

shite we hear about those down low brothas that come out prison. No damn reason for Michael Sam, Jason Collins, Johnathan Martin, etc to be gay. They haven't been locked up for 5-10yrs. Now being a gay black athlete will be "cool" because tough Michael Sam is gay. Lil black boys will think it's ok to be gay.
You serious?!!!! Why is it not ok? How does, as you put it "lil black boys" being gay affect you whatsoever? And wtf does race have anything to do with anything? Guess you're just too dense for a progressive thought.

Yeah, but this just pisses me off. I can't understand why people are so obsessed with what others do in their private lives that is not in any way hurting them. It's just so stupid.

From what I've heard it was about to be blown open by a news organization that he was.
It takes a real piece of shite to exploit and violate an innocent person's privacy. His private life should be nobody's business but his and his only. Coming out should be his decision only and they wanted to take that away from him.
It's crazy the lengths some media organizations will go to create a story for ratings and hits for their site.

He didn't have to. If a report had been a lie, then yeah.. I'd say it would be necessary to set the record straight.
