The scores Georgia had in the 4th quarter against MU were:

15 yard drive that ended in a FG (started on MU's 38 yard line)

5 yard drive that ended in a TD (started on MU's five yard line)

1 yard drive that ended in a TD (started on MU's one yard line)

It was the offense's fault, not the defense's.

He has a point though when looking at our D in that game. Hard to fault the D in at least two of the last three TDs.

Or credit UGA D to set the O up that close

One fact doesnt exclude the other.

No one said UGA D didnt play well and earned those TDs against our offense.

Those scores dont reflect on how our D played.

My pre season prediction on stltoday was this: the offensive line will cause the offense to not be as good as it should, causing the D to get overworked and put in bad field positions too often.

The D wearing down isn't our direct problem, its if the offense can keep the ball enough late in the game to give them the needed rest and decent field position.

That 4th quarter field position on UGA scoring was extremely overlooked in a lot of the analysis on here and everywhere. But yes, Jarvis and that D ate us up and earned that field position.

I have not read the thread, but I'm sure you've been flamed. I actually think stats matter. While it is too early to tell much from the numbers, it's not too early to start seeing the beginnings of trends. So far, it looks like Mizzou's defense is pretty good.

As of now, only three schools in the conference are in the top half of the league in both total offense and total defense. LSU (4 and 1), A&M (5 and 5) and SC (6 and 6).

Your defense's stats need an asterisk, since one of the two teams you have played was QBed by Garrett Gilbert.

I applaud that you do understand where winning football starts. From what I have seen of the Mizzou D, your team really is pretty good on that side of the ball. Pinkel needs to recruit hard on defense and remember he no longer plays B12 flag football.

Total defense means nothing. Scoring defense is what matters.

Not really. Scoring offense can benefit from a great defense that gives the ball in position to score, and scoring defense can suffer because the offense turns the ball and puts the opposing offense in position to score.

If you're talking about what matters as far as winning games, obviously points is all that matters, but scoring offense/defense doesn't tell the whole story about quality of play.

If you give up a ton of yards between the 20s but don't give up touchdowns you will win a ton of games. Not giving up touchdowns is the ultimate goal.

So, do you think Pinks and Yost have been holding back on the playbook to keep from revealing too much to SEC teams, or is our receiving game nonexistent?
