Must've been bulk trash pickup day. There's nothing wrong with that area. It's serviceable college apts.
I don't know. I grew up and currently live in Chesterfield and I recently lived in Bethesda, MD and I've never seen anything like that before. I asked my brother if I had entered a portal into Kentucky or West Virginia and he laughed and shrugged.

The problem was Arky fans trying to claim Bentonville and Rogers population as Fayetteville. It would be like me recommending a hotel where I live in Ofallon for someone coming into St. Louis for a Rams game. No one wants to stay in some place 40 miles away.
Then some Arky fan started bring up rising crime rates in Columbia to disparage the town... Ignoring that the crime rate is still lower in Columbia than Fayetteville.
I personally couldn't care less which town is better. I don't live in either place.

No, it is not the same. St Louis has more than enough hotel rooms for a Rams game, especially when you consider most of the fans live in STL. Fayetteville does NOT have enough hotel rooms for a Hog game, not even close. At least half of the fans in the stadium are from out of town not counting the actual visiting fans.

I'm pretty sure the Arkansas fan who said Fayetteville is bigger actually meant that NWA is better. Most Arkansans view NWA as a single metro area and don't distinguish that much between the individual communities. If you go to visit friends in, say, Springdale, you might have dinner in Rogers or Bentonville and go drinking on Dickson in Fayetteville.
It's all an unbroken chain of cities with no gaps in between.
Columbia may have other nearby cities, but they aren't immediately adjacent the way cities in NWA are. You can't drive 10 minutes and be at a different city center. If you want to spend time in three different big towns, it's going to take you a couple hours just to drive. In NWA, it's 30 minutes max.
BTW, it's 30 miles from end to end in NWA, not 40.
Comparing metro areas, NWA and Columbia are totally unalike. That was the point, though it was expressed poorly.
And you're stupid if you don't think it's relevant to consider what other things can be done on a weekend trip. If someone visits Arkansas for a game, they will have more options for things to do that are not game-related than they would at Columbia.

Which has a larger population?

They're "un-alike" to you, an Arkansas fan. They're about as similar as they can be demographically. Kinda like Norman, OK, Lawrence, KS or Lincoln, NE, all Midwestern college towns like you and us.

Drive down there. Bella Vista, Bentonville, Rogers, Springdale, and Fayetteville are all stacked right on top of each other. That is 260,000 people right there alone.
And CoMo/KC/STL are all on the same street (I-70) - that's 5 million people right there

Fizzou just stop, Columbia is nothing like Morgantown, WVa and that's the picture you're trying to paint. Why? Because you're likely not a mizzou fan
I actually concur with his statements. Couches on porches are actually quite widespread throughout Columbia. Just drive down College Ave. and you'll see a row of them across from the frat houses. They're actually quite convenient for college kids. Sit outside, drink, toke, and smoke until it's time to go out. It doesn't get much better.

Faytown is a much larger community, considering springdale, rogers and bentonville are all within a few minutes. It feels more like a metro area than Columbia. Been to both several times. Would definitely say the NWA metro is a MUCH larger place than the Columbia, MO area.

Sure, but this is still stupid since someone from Georgia would likely be passing through St. Louis metro area, which is only about 70 miles from Columbia.
Last year for the Georgia at Missouri game, some Georgia fans took the shuttle from St. Charles to Columbia and back. They stayed at the casinos in St. Charles.
It all depends on how you want to spend your weekend.
You guys talked about nature around Fayetteville. Just south of Columbia is Rock Bridge State Park.
There are things to do in both places.

Dual purpose post:
1. This woman grew up north (gasp) of Fayetteville in NWA. Listen to her speak. She is a Southerner. Do people speak like Southerners in Columbia?
2. There's a world class art museum 20 minutes from campus, one of the top 5 in the nation.

There's no way you read that brochure correctly. It probably wouldn't be the top 5 in NYC or DC, let alone the nation. I'm sure it's very nice though. Seriously.

Was this built in the past few years? I thought I remembered reading something about a new museum building in the area. I could be wrong though.

Its endowment is larger than most SEC universities.
The Guggenheim's endowment is around 150 million.
Crystal Bridges endowment is around a Billion dollars.
The collection at Crystal Bridges is in its infancy, and yeah, its right up there with the best art museums in the nation.

Endowments are good. But you can't really exhibit them and stuff.

That was just the endowment funds provided by the Walton Family Foundation in 2010 or 2009. The museum foundation was already worth around $400 million prior to that.
The actual cost of construction is a secret, and is not included in the $$$ for the collection or the endowment.
Its major.
