Lubbock would be an interesting trip for a random regular season game.

Drive over to Amarillo and paint the Cadillac Ranch in MS State colors.

Here's some really weird trivia: In 1968 MSU tied Texas Tech....and the game counted in the SEC standings.

I don't know all the details. In the 60s the SEC schools were supposed to play 6 conference games, but the conference office did not get involved in the scheduling. For some reason, State was short an SEC game for 1968, and only had 5 scheduled. They had just concluded a home-and-home with UGA and no one filled the Georgia slot for 1968.

So, the SEC allowed MSU to just designate one of their non-conference games as counting in the conference standings, and they chose Texas Tech.

If you look up MSU's final 1968 record, they were 0-8-2 overall, and 0-4-2 in the SEC. But their two ties were Ole Miss and Texas Tech.

UGHH...I would use the opportunity to go visit Palo Duro Canyon about an hour and a half north of Lubbock near Amarillo then come back for the game.

October and November are good months to be there.

Also, get a steak at

Is that one of those steak houses where if you eat the 72 oz. steak, your meal is free?

Spot on. It was one of the very first 'Man v Food' episodes.

The success rate is VERY low from my understanding.

I've never been to one of those places. But, there have been videos posted online over the years filming guys that have tried it. Most of these seem to come from Texas.

LSU only played 4 actual SEC teams in 1968. TCU and Tulane were "appointed conference games." Florida and Vanderbilt's games with Tulane were counted as SEC games in 1968.

That practice ended in 1969 which was unfortunate for LSU. Tennessee won the SEC at 5-1 and LSU was 4-1. Both teams lone loss was to Ole Miss in Jackson. LSU lost 26-23 and Tennessee lost 38-0.

Wonder if we'll get a tribute uniform for the Cowboys like we did the Pats? Maroon and silver with a single bulldog face on the helmet?
