Ole Miss and Miss St. are both claiming their boards will be the largest true HD in the SEC.

The $6.1 million true HD board, will span the roof of the Leo Seal M-Club Centre in the south end zone at Scott Field, and will be operational by October, 2008. When completed, the new board will measure 152 feet wide by 135 feet, 6 inches tall, with a main HD screen 111 feet wide by 47 feet high. It will be the largest true high definition board in the Southeastern Conference

I could care less if we put HD video screens in tiger stadium. I think the ones we have now are adequate, and I would rather see them spend money on other things.
I am there to watch the action on the field. If I want HDTV, I can stay at home

Why not ? Everyone loved them when they were first put in, and now all of a sudden they are not good enough because some fans have penis envy about other schools video boards ?

because they're tiny and you can barely see anything on them.

For proper perspective as to how large the board will be at MSU, their boards main screen will measure 111 feet wide by 47 feet high. The U of Arkansas has the worlds largest LED Smartvision screen at 107 feet wide and 30 feet high.
Ours is massive, and in a much larger stadium, so what Miss. St. is throwing up is BIG for their tiny hell hole.

We just got done renovating and expanding our stadium to almost twice what MSU's capacity is, plus they are MSU...when they are losing bad, they are going to hook up a Blu Ray player to the HD scoreboard and play Dude Where's My Car?

Best thing about this story is the photo, which looks like it's from an actual home day game in Starkvegas...
Only thing missing are lines on the field.
"Make some noise!"
I guess if you didn't want to go to the game, you could just sit on the opposite side of the field outside the stadium from like several hundred feet away and watch the video screen.

Our experience at the UA has been that these screens end up being distractions.
It's neat to say you have the largest "whatever" type of screen in the conference, nation, or world but I would gladly tear ours down with my very own hands.
When the board could be used during timeouts or throughout the game to get the crowd excited, we get to watch 3 minutes of the "Drain-O Hardworker of the Week", "Wal-Mart is awesome because...", "Buy this or that kind of Sausage"...........
It turns into the worlds largest advertising platform.

Fear Not Tiger fans! I've talked with the local rep for Daktronics. We were meeting on a project for my firm, and i mentioned that they were doing the Ole Miss board. He said and i quote "Yea it's ok, but you should see what LSU is planning." I said oh really? He said "Yes you'll be hearing about it once financing is taken care of, I cant discuss it in details because it hasn't been finalized."
So we'll be getting up to speed soon.

i think a big reason though is a lot of those stadiums have open endzones where one can easily be put. seriously where would we put something that big in TS. Im sure they could figure it out but it would probably cost a lot more.
Bingo. You can look at the largest HD board in college football at Texas. It's in their endzone sitting behind temporary bleachers. Same with OM, MSU, USM and Arkansas for example.
Put anything of comparable size to those that are being installed at OM and MSU then that price starts to sky rocket because of the increased cost of engineering and constructing something that can withstand some hurricane winds that high over our endzones. Not to mention, we actually have 2 video boards compared to most other stadiums' 1.
Based on OM and MSU's cost, I would put the cost of 2 similar sized video boards at LSU in the $15 million range. Not cheap by any means. That more expensive then the new basketball practice facility being built now. That could easily pay for the new indoor tennis facility or even a new indoor track facility (as some on here seem to want).
