The funny thing is Wolken is 100% correct.
He keeps winning (relatively speaking) and he can't get a better job than Wazzu? Why?

Nah, he could get a bunch of looks but he has to get past the old curmudgeon or hypocritical donors. IMO.

Might be the first time this phrase has ever been spoken.

If he coulda, he woulda.
He's pimped himself out the last couple of offseasons and he's still in Pullman.
There is a reason why he's never gotten a shot at a big job. Shame firing from Texas Tech. Etc. there is something obviously wrong with him. Thinking it was a good idea to tweet out that obviously fake video, doubling down on it when called out, getting into a Twitter war with a journalist. Dude is just weird

Gotta respect a guy that goes .500 in the PAC12

He's lost 2 home openers to FCS schools in the last 3 years and lost by 5 touchdowns to a 5-7 Cal team last year.

That's sounds like Leach alright. In some games, his team shows flashes of genius. Then the next week, you sort of just scratch your head.

I agree that he is a bit overrated and think he would have been a big time failure at UT.
That being said, he's still had enough success at lower tier jobs to suggest that he should have gotten a shot somewhere bigger.

He would win over a shite ton of 18 year olds on the bayou and be jolly to fight for talent in SE Texas.
He's never been a great recruiter, so I highly doubt that.

Never understood the infatuation.
Dude’s .500 in the weakest conference in all of college football and doesn’t exactly have the best record against ranked competition. Lost to Eastern Washington and blamed it on the the generation of kids - EWU’s kids sure as hell showed up to win, what were his doing?
He’s Hal Mumme with a better Twitter account. Anybody in the SEC want another Mumme?

If Mike Leach was at Tennessee he would beat Saban at Alabama within 3 years, no question. I can’t see Pruitt ever beating Saban.

Leach takes garbage tier talent and makes them scary. His first 3 years at WSU I thought he was washed up and done for, being well under .500. Nope. Turns out he just needed to rebuild. His last 3 years at WSU.

Now these would be disappointing numbers for Auburn or LSU, but this is done from Pullman Washington and they have sucked for a long time. Its not ordinary suck either.
Their last coach went 9-40 for a crisp .184 winning percentage.
He beat a 10 win Stanford team 42-16 a couple years ago. His teams have lost headscratchers but you have to remember WSU isnt very talented and is constantly punching above their weight. They should be losing a lot more games than they do. He's certainly better than Mumme at Kentucky. Big dogs like USC and Stanford have to sweat when they play WSU because Leach is smarter than their head-coaches. Hes just better at gameplanning and making mid game adjustments to exploit specific weakness on the opposing defenses. To me, upsets like that are the coolest shite in college football. (It should be noted that hes not nearly as good as Peterson on that front)
He's got a bunch of 2 and 3 star athletes and maybe one or two 4 star. No one knows what he could do with LSU's athletes. There's no guarantee he would be an NC contender but I wouldn't think its unlikely either. Oklahoma's had success with a similar offense and I know they aren't SEC, but they didn't exactly embarrass themselves playing us in the Rose Bowl last year.
I think universities don't hire him because hes quirky as hell and the Tech situation has all their liability lawyers saying its not a smart move.
Also this old article needs to be posted on every Leach thread because its always worth reading again.

I didn’t even see reading that what Wolken did. I’m sad.

Everyone who hasn’t read his book should. It explains a lot. And the team I sweated was Auburn. Had he been hired instead of GusBus they would have been in the running for the west every year. And he would have had Ga. Fl. Next door to recruit in.
