Weird. Both links by OP cite Billy Liucci as their source. Not saying this isn't happening, but has Liucci jumped the gun before and been wrong about something like this? Not to throw shade on Aggie, but ND is a school that can certainly afford to pay Elko whatever it would take to keep him around if the Domers feel that way about him.
I hope an official announcement comes soon. It would be a sad thing to see all the Aggies jumping the gun on their DC hire two days in a row.
I have 2 links in my OP and 5 more if you want them coming from different sources.

A&M upgraded at DC and LSU kept a good one. We all won.
Well, not everyone won.. The guys writing the checks at LSU didn't win.

but Aranda called and inquired about the job.
Yeah that's why he stayed at LSU, right?

Negotiations go back and forth all the time.
And yes, sometimes the current employer effectively counters an offer from a competitor.
Why are some people struggling with this idea?
Onward.

Aranda wasn’t our DC.
We weren’t stepping down from him.
As for mediocre ... you’re the first I’ve seen characterize Elko as such, but to each his own.

Man that aggie delusion is unreal
The initial instinct is to pass it off as the usual trolling.
But then you keep seeing it get re-posted, then again, and again
Until you realize, holy shite. They ACTUALLY believe this.

One barometer I like to use for a new coaching hire is how his former teams fans feel about them leaving, and based on initial ND fan reactions it’s looking good for the ags.
On the flip side, When UCLA fans didn’t give a shite about mazzone leaving you knew we fricked up.

I've asked three times now. What is Elko known for? I know he got boat raced by Miami and Stanford this year. I googled him and saw he's been around awhile and has had 1 top 20 defense between all of his stops. His game-planning is about to get exponentially more difficult with A&M's defensive roster and the talent running around in the SEC these days.

I think we’d have been happy with the 4th or 5th names/candidates as well.
The top 5 were all great candidates.
But Elko it is.
What choice was Jim Leonhard?
