I'm told there are a variety of factors playing into this decision.

-- For one, the coaching change has had an effect on Blakely. That's not talking about offensive philosophy...that's building a relationship with a set of coaches over several months...and then having to deal with a completely different group upon arriving on campus. Blakely just didn't fit in with Muschamp, Weis, etc. like he did with Meyer, Drayton etc.

-- Injury. That Blakely was unable to participate this spring due to a shoulder injury was certainly frustrating for the freshman, and only compounded matters.

-- Finally, there were some people in the Blakely camp that really supported his going to Florida. I think Blakely tried to make those people happy by deciding on Florida...when he really liked Auburn quite a bit in the early-going. Ultimately, UF might have proved to be a compromise decision between Blakely and the people around him.

All of these issues really sort of swirled together to make things worse for Blakely in regards to adjusting to UF. He gets to Florida, he can't play football...and maybe he realizes he really didn't pick the program for all of the right reasons. If Blakely was healthy and good-to-go this spring...things might be a lot different right now.

Now, keep in mind...this isn't coming directly from Blakely...but these are the observations of some impartial observers who are close to the situation. This isn't fact, but rather...the thoughts of some people who were in a position to watch everything go down. Granted...I think this scenario makes a lot of sense.

Just curious about this - did Blakely have a handler/street agent that helped him make a decision about what college he would ultimately decide to sign with?

Why would this be considered a "compromise decision" between Blakeley and the "people around him?"

Another wierd observation in this synopsis, don't ya think?

The story earlier his recruiting process was the he wanted Auburn but his family wanted UF so he would be close.

We don't do street agents brah. That's an LSU, Auburn thing.

If I remember correctly MB told AU coaches late in the recruiting process that the distance from home was a problem for his family. I seem to recall this pissing off a few coaches because MB had assured them earlier that distance was not a problem.. I think he sprung this on AU shortly before he committed to FL.

A reliable insider speaks.

- Blakely (MB) had surgery and couldn't participate in spring
- MB was not going to play in 2011 Red Shirt (RS)
- MB watched Jeff Demps (JD), Chris Rainey (TTD) Mike Gillislee (MG) and Mack Brown Jr (MBJ) in practice all spring.
- JD and TTD are seniors no problem there.
- MBJ and MG are back in 2012
- UF recruits two stud running backs for 2012

The end of the story seems to be that he saw the depth chart and didn't think it was favorable for him since he couldn't compete this spring. If he had been good to go then he may have stayed. Some will call this fear of competing. The insider said it's really in MB's best interest.

Pro-style excuse is just that an excuse.

I do wish him luck and hope his shoulder heals up nicely with no further problems.

Reliable?

I'm no insider but I'm pretty sure Jeff Demps ran track, and Mike Gilislee was hurt most of if not all of spring ball, as well as Mack Brown, so I'm not sure how he watched them all spring.

MB burnt some bridges with the AU staff, it is unlikely he winds up at AU, that said an RB shortage can heal a lot of wounds.
