A few of us are quite landlocked. Yes, I have relatives and friends that have been through hurricanes and my family has lost property from hurricanes. But that's a far cry from the suffering those who are more directly hit face.

Hurricane Michael Just Hours Away From a Catastrophic, Unprecedented Florida Panhandle, Big Bend Category 4 Landfall

Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Wind Scale / Damage

Cat-3 111-129 mph -- Devastating damage will occur: Well-built framed homes may incur major damage or removal of roof decking and gable ends. Many trees will be snapped or uprooted, blocking numerous roads. Electricity and water will be unavailable for several days to weeks after the storm passes.

Cat-4 130-156 mph -- Catastrophic damage will occur: Well-built framed homes can sustain severe damage with loss of most of the roof structure and/or some exterior walls. Most trees will be snapped or uprooted and power poles downed. Fallen trees and power poles will isolate residential areas. Power outages will last weeks to possibly months. Most of the area will be uninhabitable for weeks or months.

The good news is there’s almost nothing of value to damage in the Florida panhandle.

Tell that to my elderly grandparents...

Real classy making fun of a serious tragedy. I though Louisiana folks would be more sympathetic

Sympathy? Your sentiment reminds me of a George Carlin skit where he says he's amazed at people who build their home at the base of an active volcano, then wonder why they have lava running through the living room. When you choose to build your home on the gulf coast or southern east coast you WILL be hit by hurricanes. It comes with the territory.

Hopefully the rain doesn't touch Alabama, as we learned last week Mizzou no longer tries when it rains.

For the record, does this mean Katrina jokes are officially cool now?

I am in the process of buckling down for the storm now. I just did an inventory and I have a dozen cans of beef ravioli, a couple fifths of bourbon and a carton of cigarettes. I think I'm ready

People should be gone by now - all that is left are things. Things can be replaced and/or rebuilt.

Canceling a game for no reason is not the same as Katrina. With that said, if it makes you feel better to joke about Katrina, who am I to stop you?

Before I start I know how awful this is going to be but...

The worse Michael is the more money my son(who is also named Michael) will make.

He is an insurance adjuster and devastating storms are when he makes the most money.

So for my son and for my own selfish reasons(he needs to get out of my house) I hope it fricks up ever building and house in it's path.

So true.

Furthermore they get to experience all the upsides of the great lifestyle that comes with the choice of living there.
The only problem I have with their choice is they want the rest of us to subsidize their choice when the inevitable hurricane destroys their property.

People should be smarter.
I moved my family to an almost zero crime area. We live at Approximately 1500 feet elevation and have zero flood chances.
We do have the possibility of a tornado now and then but we built our house with that in mind.

The downside. I have to drive over an hour one way to work.

The upside for our choices outweigh the downsides.

Yeah man sounds like paradise

I'd rather live in an active volcano than have to drive 2 hours a day for work
