How the frick does this get past the first post? Miles isn't even the best coach on his staff.

His record and recruiting say otherwise. Why would the top talent in the country want to come play for such a shitty coach? Miles must be THE ULTIMATE bamboozler.

I don't care how he got here. All I know is that he knows how to beat "The Bear Bryant of Oklahoma State, The Hat, Do Les With More" Leslie Miles.

You never know when a "Tim Tebow" or "Hershel Walker" or a "BO Jackson" is gonna appear on the roster of some SEC team and skew things their way for 2 or 3 years. Just the nature and history of the beast.

Great point. I would take Meyer right now if I was an AD, but when you have a Tebow like player it certainly can skew the metrics and perception. I dont think you can really go wrong with either, but we will know more when Meyer has to restock at some point. Both are solid recruiters, good big game coaches, etc.

Vince Dooley was a fantastic coach, but he surely seemed a hell of a lot smarter and more prepared when he could hand off to Herschel 35 times a game, and win a National Title with your QB only completing ONE PASS for 7 yards. You really find out how good these guys are when they have to retool.

This is why I think Bobby Johnson is so underrated.

Ok so the other three times before when Les has beaten Ole Miss like 41-24, or 23-20, and 40-7 dont mean anything. I would say its a little soon to be bragging about ur 31-13 win when since Miles has been at LSU uve been outscored 117 to 82 and ur only 1-3 against LSU in the Miles era.

and everyone saying miles sucess is only do to saban recruits is the dumbest thing ive ever heard. i mean the players u recruit have a little to do with ur sucess, but its how u coach them. saying this means shula is the only reason saban got to the SEC title game. Miles wouldve beaten Saban had Saban not recruited Perilloux. and by star average Les is statistically the better recruiter just fyi, i mean he only has the #1 recruiting class in the country this year.

meyer has been a lot luckier than miles...

no competition in the moutain west for the utes...

followed ron zook at gainesville and not saint nick at baton rouge...

couldn't anyone recruit four-star talent to gainesville?

meyer is an absolute douchebag - if he were at LSU he'd be my douchebag - but really... be honest with yourself... smug douchebag

miles outworks him... les may be the crazy uncle... but he's our crazy uncle...

the look on meyer's face when the bulldogs stormed the field at the greatest outdoor cocktail party... the look on meyer's face with a gator loss... priceless

the hat > the 'bag'

2005 LSU won 21-17 Won by <1 TD
2006 LSU humiliated by tebow (10-23)
2007 LSU squeaked by 28-24 Won by <1 TD
2008 LSU humiliated by tebow (51-21*Les miles also had a bye week to prepare for this game

jeauxwillie - the 2006 edition tigers gift-wrapped the game for the gators - by all accounts the four-year record should be 3 - 1 LSU

my frustration with coach miles this year IS my frustration with every LSU team for the last five years... we're underachieving - no reason to have loss to the razorbacks and rebels this year

still... the hat > the 'bag'

Dude, its hard to say any coach in college football history has had more luck than our beloved Les Miles. Get real man.

I don't know how anyone could rationally pick Miles over Meyer. I would venture to say that Meyer is the best coach in the country.

Bear Bryant never beat General Neyland. Despite what Coach Bryant said about Neyland, I would not refrain from calling Bryant a better coach.

to restate the case - meyer is a douchebag - in your heart you know its true

At this point I don't really think it's close. Unless Miles wins a national title this year, it still won't be. Meyer has won two national titles in a three year span.

Both coaches entered their fourth seasons with their respective schools and had just about their entire rosters consisting of their own recruits. Meyer wins a National title, while Miles loses 5 games, most of them lopsided.

We were on borrowed time with Miles. This season was caused by the accumulation of some poor decisions made by Miles in his four years here. I'm not just talking about Malveto, I'm also talking about the gradual deterioration of the team culture that we could see bit and pieces of in his first three seasons, which manifested itself in an ugly way in 2008.

Les could have the #1 class in the nation this year, and his assistants have some good credentials, but if he (or his coaching staff) doesn't start running this team with some modicum of authority, we're going to continue to lose, no matter how much talent we bring in.

Let's see if he did what needed to be done. But as said before, unless he wins a National Title in 2009, he's not in Meyer's league.

What do you mean by luck? If you mean the 4th down conversions, who's to say that we just were unlucky on downs 1-3? What if those 4th down conversions were 2nd and 1 or 3rd and 1? Would he still be a lucky coach?

+1. And I won't even venture.... Urban Meyer is the best coach in the country, and it's not really that close right now.

It does, however, win two national championships in two years and become favored to win a third one.

That is VERY debatable. And I'm not talking about Miles, because certainly he won't be considered in the same class, rightly or wrongly, but Meyer is not head and shoulders above the likes of Carrol, Brown, dare I even say Stoops, and Tressel.
