State doesn't have a problem with doing home and homes with local G5 programs because the road games are almost like regional home games for us. It gives fans in different parts of the state a chance to get to a game.

I'd rather trim my nose hair in the dark with a blowtorch than watch these two games.

Man youre a snob of a college football fan, i would definitely watch that game, especially as the early game on saturday unless something better was on. Thats a fun little match up if memphis can keep up the momentum theyve had lately.

It’ll be a fun series. We haven’t. Lost to them in a long time but they are playing better. No telling who is coaching either team in 28-29

That is not a bad away game for State. Lets be honest, State fans will almost certainly outnumber Memphis fans in the stands. Memphis is just up the road from Starkville. Memphis is a great SEC town... that just happens to not have an SEC team.

I might have held out for a two for one deal, but this is not a bad get for State.

What’s the deal with State doing home and homes with G5 programs? They traveled to Louisiana Tech a few years ago. Last year they played Louisiana at the super dome in what basically was a home and home.

A lot of them are 2-for-1 deals. LA Tech was a 2-for-1, they came to Starkville in 2015 and 2018. The UL series was different because it was in the Super Dome, I was at the game and there were more State fans there than UL fans. Don't think we would've agreed to a straight up home and home with them, if we were going to play in Lafayette then it would've been a 2-for-1.

They do the occasional home and home that doesn't make a ton of sense. I don't necessarily mind doing a home and home in Memphis or NOLA, or a 2-for-1 in Hattiesburg or Mobile. But they have a home and home scheduled with Troy for about 7 or 8 years from now that to me I don't really get, but whatever.

I'd have to disagree here...Ole Miss is much closer and didn't outnumber Memphis the last few times they played at LBS. And the run Memphis has been on the last couple years, the fan base and average attendance has only increased

That's Ole Miss. They were terrible and their fan base was unmotivated. But still, there were tens of thousands of Ole Miss fans there. A reputable football program should never have that many visiting fans in their stands.

And the run Memphis has been on the last couple of years has been a G5 run. Mid tier SEC schools will still beat them 9/10 times. I know Memphis beat Ole Miss last year but Ole Miss was one of the worst P5 schools in the country. Most SEC teams would have beaten Memphis last year. In 2021 I expect that State will boat race them and have somewhere north of 35% (conservatively) of the fan support in the stadium as well.

Not if Memphis is good.

Also, I almost died at the Liberty Bowl last year. 11 AM kickoff with temps in the 90s and 70% humidity

I was slugging down any liquid I could find: Miller Lite, water, etc.

We are Memphis’s most hated rival and our fanbase was pretty apathetic. Memphis was a borderline top 25 team too. It’s no surprise Memphis outnumbered us.

2019 Memphis would beat:
Mizzou
Arkansas
Ole Miss
State
Vandy
Kentucky
South Carolina

Possibly Tennessee too.

I don’t think the State fan who said half the conference would beat Memphis has any idea how good they were. 12-1 in the best G5 conference. Memphis had four wins over teams with 10+ wins. 8th nationally in points scored per game.

Ole Miss had 173 yards of total offense against Memphis last year and only lost by 5.

They had a good year last year... But I would only pick them to beat about half the teams you mentioned.
