I still agree with my post that the hire was rushed but think bama did as good as they were able to given the circumstances. I mean, it's just not an attractive job right now in comparison to others and other potential openings

And you didn't inform me of anything. I pay attention. This hire is a desperate one that came after Texas and Tennessee had better hires.
Add State. It was a decent hire, but the worst of the 3 made in conference.
Agreed on Texas and maybe State.
But not UT. Thank god we didn't hire Rick Barnes.

Rick could revamp his career or he could run UT into the ground.
But he's proven, so that's something to be excited about for vol fans IMO.
And he should have no trouble recruiting considering the guys he's coached. Durant, lamarcus...

I'm thankful everyday we didn't just hire a guy who:
-Has 20+ wins in 15 out of the last 17 seasons.
-Has Sent 23 players to the league. Something like 13 in the first round.
-1 Final four appearance
-3 Elite 8 appearances
-6 Sweet Sixteens
-8th in all time wins among active coaches
- COY 3x in the Big 12
-Proven top recruiter -- Nation wide.
-Finished with a 403-180 W/L record in a conference with a lot more parity.
-Has made the tournament 16 out of the last 17 years. 22 NCAA appearances total.
-Kevin Durant, T.J Ford,LaMarcus Aldridge, T. Thompson, Joseph, Ivey, Augustine, Gibson, Bradley, Tucker etc. -- Put them all in the league.
Rick Barnes has forgotten more about Basketball than Alabama has history of it.
Congrats on letting Mississippi State make a better hire though brother.

Personally, I've always liked AJ. He talks a little funny but all-around good guy.

He's recruited some really good players, I will give him that, but I just can't remember him ever really having that impressive of a season, especially given the talent you listed.

The man has more tournament appearances in his tenure than your University does in it's history.
I'm not sure how else to answer that.

Media responds to Avery Johnson to Bama - "Home run hire"
IMO, it's a questionable hire due to him never coaching college basketball, never recruiting high-school basketball players and him never being involved within the Power 5 Conference. It's a "big name" hire to an extent, due to him playing and coaching in the NBA, but it's yet to see if any of that will translate to college basketball. He will have to learn that college basketball isn't a business like the NBA, and he has to take care and look out for these kids. Avery Johnson started off good at Dallas when he took them to the Conference Finals and NBA Finals in back-to-back years, but then he lost in the 1st round in consecutive years and then never made the playoffs at Brooklyn/New Jersey. He was ultimately fired from both jobs and struggled to find another head coaching job in the NBA, it seems.
I guess we will see, aye?
All in all, I rate it as a 6/10 hire.

He has more than Alabama or Tennessee for that matter.

He's also starting his career at Tennessee at 61 years old.

It's was really a home run hire many people don't realize the excitement he will bring to the alabama program

But that's like your opinion.
