what a typical race baiting explanation

i guess that's why everyone is on their hands and knees begging Shaka Smart to coach their program, or the fact a historically conservative university in Texas decided to also hire Charlie Strong

I get Austin and their student body numbers, but let's not act like the boosters calling the shots are a bunch of liberal communication studies majors

I can definitely see you getting your talking points from Stephen A Smith.

...for such a dog shite program, we sure can afford to pay our coaches well....

...and if Smith is right, I guess that blows your theory out of the water that "Bammer" is racist.

Just like Anthony Grant, can't miss!!!!

The same Grant that was a Billy Donovan change of heart away from being hired to be the UF head coach. Don't forget how close you guys were to hiring him.

Not to mention he point was that he had to settle for a non-blue blood college job. Basically, SAS thinks Avery should be an NBA coach. He thinks that at the bare minimum he should coach at Kentucky or North Carolina or Georgetown. He thinks that anywhere outside of a traditional Top 10-15 college job is beneath a guy who he believes SHOULD be an NBA coach.

I'm failing to see where this should (a) offend me as an Alabama fan or (b) show that we are a "dogshite" program.

Also, clearly we are the most progressive school in America providing another black man an opportunity to coach the Tide

I like Stephen A. Don't always agree with him, but I like him. I remember when he said "auburn is a dog shite program and the fact that Pearl has to settle for such a job shows the lack of opportunities available for coaches with show causes placed on them".

oh, and btw, props for your continued commitment to the "bammer" pejorative. stay with it.

He just didn't rail on bammer for not being a traditional blue blood. He specifically mentioned them never winning a nationalchampionship, never making a final four, and being a football school.

Arkansas. Florida, and LSU are not traditional blue bloods, but they at least meet some of the requirements he mentioned

OMG! We've never won a national championship or been to a Final Four! WTF ARE WE GOING TO DO?

Besides, if you are using SAS's analysis as something you clearly believe and trust in then I guess you agree this was a damn home run steal of a hire then, right?

Rick Carlisle, respected as one of the better coaches in the NBA, has only won 1 NBA Title with the 7 ft tall German (and a better cast around him) in seven years in Dallas. What a bum!

Yeah - Sorry Bama's program is not "blueblood" enough or its beneath an NBA caliber coach.

Funny tho, we pay as well if not better than any of those programs mentioned or the NBA for that matter....

Shouldn't he be thrilled that we hire a black coach without a second thought? Unfortunately that wouldn't be the case 40-50 years ago

I guess I should be offended that Stephan A. Smith thinks we got a coach who is too good for us and should be coaching in the NBA or at Florida or UCLA?

Somehow that is..........bad?

Any coach who has coached in the professional ranks has to at least have a good grasp of their selected sport with knowledge of x and o's , player management, etc. I liked Grant and wanted him to succeed but the team and he looked lost at times and I believe many bama fans see this hire as an upgrade in that respect so pardon our enthusiasm. Do we know for sure he will be successful?? No, but outside of a few slam dunk hires, who does?

You realize that you are talking about a coach that got beat in the NBA FINALS, yes? Yes, I believe he may do a better job than Tony Grant. Maybe. Hopefully.
