I am deaf and the SEC media days on t.v. is not closed caption! The Big 12 media days is closed caption. That is too bad Missouri is no longer there and it is frustrated for me. I guess not enough deaf people watch and support the SEC.

I feel for you, yeah that is an issue that needs to be addressed. You should have had that option.

Who the hell downvoted his post? The guy is deaf and loves his team. I swear, some of the gutless heartless people on this board.

Not to be rude, but if you are deaf, isn't there equipment or features on televisions that have that option? I'm unsure, so asking lol.

Are you on twitter? Beat writers and others in the media basically tweet the highlights during the coaches/players media day time at the podium. I'm sure they will have full recaps this afternoon/evening for todays schools.

That’s pretty surprising. Especially since most other shows/sporting events on ESPN are CC.

Could shoot them an email and see what kind of response you get.

All new T.V. are equip with Closed Caption. It is on off when you buy it brand new. The captioning is set up only if the program decided to allow it and it cost money to do that. The Big 12 media days have theirs set up. It is the responsible of the program of that channel to pay for it.

The way closed captioning works is when you turn on the feature on the TV it picks up a signal that is the text that has been translated via a stenographer. The TV equipment itself isn’t doing the translating. It’s just picking up the signal.

So if someone isn’t translating it, it’s not going to pick it up.

I've found that they'll sometimes have the CC on or off depending on if you're viewing the HD or standard definition broadcast feed of a certain station or if you do an online feed from another station that is covering. I don't know if that's the case here but it should be in CC on all broadcasts regardless

We’ve been over this before on here. I contacted them last year when someone else mentioned it. There is some fcc regulation that states they have to be cc available by a certain amount of time after they’ve been up and running- the sec network that is. They assured me they would meet the timeline. It is bs tho and should have been done from day 1 imo.

I’ve got Finebaum on now with the SEC Network in HD and they’re using closed captioning (turned it on via the cable box versus the TV). So it looks like some of the live programs on the network is using CC.

If it’s program specific, there’s no good reason they shouldn’t have it for Media Days.

I see that now. But when the coaches were speaking it was not closed caption. Paul Finebaum Show is something else.

I wonder if that’s how they’ve gotten around the FCC requirement, by offering it on some programming but not others.

Still shitty nonetheless. It’s not like ESPN doesn’t use the service for other live talk programs because it does.

Could it be because a difference of not being in studio? I mean I know they have tons of equipment, but definitely no knowledge on that at all.

Lefty, Im going to make a call and get this fixed. I can’t promise it will be fixed this year but next year’s media days will have the feature.

It shouldn’t be. They have CC for most live athletic events. There was CC for the NBA Summer League games last week when we were watching some of them while out at a pub.

It depends on the program want to spend the money to hire someone to do the job. That is what it is. Most programs are closed caption. I have cable box. That is the one is on closed caption. Got to turn that on. Not the one from T.V. So T.V. closed caption is for if there is no cable box. It was bad 25 years ago. A lot better now and that some hearing people have it on when they listen to music or working out at the gym.

I think it's because they couldn't find a stenographer that could translate what Coach O was saying, so they just didn't hire one.
