I worked in Lexington KY. When I was there it sucked!!! The football was awful, & the basket ball team was average! Except for the Keenland race track there was nothing to do!

He's been a big improvement over what we have had, but lets be honest. A 7 win season would get you fired at some SEC schools and definitely on the hot seat at others. He has also learned on the job while head coach and that is allowed because expectations are tempered at Kentucky. I hope he stays because he is finally learning how to coach. Our recruiting is much better than in the past but still near the lower end of the SEC. He has coached players up and built a good staff. He is as good a coach as we could reasonably expect to have and the expectations at Kentucky are as realistic as a coach could hope to have. He is making millions, enjoying life in a beautiful part of the country, relatively near where he grew up and in a secure job. Sounds like a great match for him and Kentucky.

The winner in all this is Kentucky. UK is allowing time and patience for Stoops. Some programs want results right away or you’re fired. He has a great resume which dates back to being an assistant on the 2001 national champion Miami Hurricanes.
I hope UK football can rise in the years to come to eventually compete for an SEC title. Spurrier did it at South Carolina. Anything is possible.

plus you have a fanbase that is euphoric over a 6-6 season. Guy really has no pressure.

having lived in Kentucky for now over 30 + years, i think the average Kentucky foorball fan has been conditioned to 7 wins being a good season.

I get it that Kentucky has those two things which are unique to Kentucky. I just find it hard to believe horse racing or the bourbon trail are reasons for Stoops to never leave Kentucky, or that those two and other factors make Kentucky even a top five job in the conference, much less "the best job in college football" as the title states.
I don’t think you get what the author is saying. He’s saying expectations are incredibly reasonable, unlike most SEC schools.
His pay for achieving these expectations is exceptionally good.
The investment and fan support for a program with such reasonable expectations is exceptionally high.
And Lexington is a very good destination to raise a family and enjoy leisure.
If you’ve not experienced a spring day at Keeneland, I wouldn’t imagine you could properly appreciate it.

Seems like he's in a good position now with OSU recruiting more nationally, UK can scoop up quality OH and Midwest talent, see Lynn Bowden

Depending on what the coach is after, it may or may not be the best. If he’s looking to make his mark as one of the best ever, there are better jobs to have than this one. If he’s looking to actually have a life and make big dollars along the way, it’s perfect.

I agree he was smart to stay in Lexington if his life ambition is to be a multi-millionaire, have a great, balanced life, live in a great city, etc, but never be considered among the best in history at his trade. He's like a Gary Patterson, Brent Venables, or Bud Foster. Those types of guys are smart enough to put their egos aside to be happy and content. 99% of the types of people who ever get even above average at coaching football are the types whose egos are so big that they have to take a chance at coaching at an Alabama, FSU, Ohio State, etc. Modern tv money also allows good coaches to stay at average schools and make great money also.

Never known or heard of an top tier CFB HC being satisfied with these things.Plenty of assistants are.
HC's always have the drive to get to the ultimate goal and many have ruined their careers because of it.

The fall races are not bad either. Went a few years ago in October after running in the Bourbon Chase (2nd place male masters team ) and getting shite faced at the bourbon tasting exhibit and Sky Bar (not sure it’s still there). Have been back a few times to tour the Bourbon Trail. Kentucky is a pretty state.

So, you're still living there? Must be a great joy to be there when you could've move elsewhere to your liking.

I'd rather coach at USF personally. Same level of possible success and you get a beach. Win win.
Go ahead do it! Don't hold back your dream job!
