BAMA's defense is 1st overall, giving up an average of 8.8 points a game. LSU's is 2nd giving up 10.6 a game. I'll take BAMA's secondary.

That is bc Bama was feasting on NOrth Tx and Kent St. while LSU was playing Oregon and West Virginia.

compare those averages against the average rank of offenses faced for both teams...

This guy brings up an excellent point. IMO, a better solution would be to compare stats from common opponents. I took the time to go full nerd on you guys and rack up some STATS STATS STATS (LOL), just to see how close these two teams were in pass coverage. I must say, the results are pretty remarkable.

Arkansas threw for 209 yards against Alabama. They threw for 207 against LSU.

Florida threw for 207 yards against Alabama. They threw for 100 against LSU. Of course, the problem with this stat is there was no John Brantley against LSU.

Ole Miss threw for 113 yards against Alabama. They threw for 47 against LSU (LMAO).

Tennessee threw for 63 yards against Alabama. They threw for 128 against LSU(was this before or after Bray was injured?).

MSU threw for 119 against Alabama.
They threw for 141 against LSU.

Auburn threw for 62 yards against Alabama.
They threw for 161 against LSU.

BAMA's average - 128.83 YPG

LSU's average - 130.66 YPG

If my calculations are correct, the LSU secondary has given up an average of less than TWO yards more than the Alabama secondary. Factor in the amount of turnovers LSU's secondary has caused vs. Alabama's, and I would probably give the edge to LSU's DB's. I didn't take the time to look at the difference in turnovers, because I'm pretty sure LSU has quite a few more.

The conclusion we can draw from all of this is this year has been memorable from the standpoint that two of the most badass defenses in college football history played not only in the same year, not only in the same conference, but in the same division, and against each other, possibly twice in the same season.

I don't care what anybody tries to say, this year has been one of my favorite seasons ever, even if we lost, and even if we lose to LSU again.

What were the passing stats in the LSU Alabama game? And remember y'all think McCarron SUCKS.

Well excuse me if I think our DBs are better when they are ahead of LSU in almost every statistical category.

These two comments tell me all I need to know about You two.

you see unlike the 3-4 suffocating defense of Bama, the 4-3 suffocating Bend but don't break defense will give up stats, it's a given tbh, but rarely will it break down when push comes to shove as evident in the bama game. We make you drive the length of the field. Maybe if Bama had a ST unit worth a damn you could do the same. Instead you let them start at your 30.

Well did he mean as a unit? Playing in a game together? Or just individual players?

more sacks, more tackles for loss. and none of these stats are by a little. it's by good margins.

seriously if you cant admit has a better secondary then i really shouldnt waste my time because it speaks to the type of person im talking to.

I don't think it matters. we have the best corner combo in the SEC and probably the 2nd best safety combo. I'm not going to argue this though. How many passing TDs has Bama given up?

Idk. And I don't want to waste my time arguing this either......it's close enough that it doesn't matter. But I will say that after our game this year it was clear that in a big game like that nobody will be able to throw the ball AT ALL against Alabama.

same for us... more than half of Bama's passing yards were to the RB within 3 yards of the line of scrimmage.

How many yards did Alabama have? That's hard to believe but I'll give you the benefit of the doubt. LSU's has probably played better over the course of the year ( maybe ) but I didn't realize how bad the pass offenses they faced were until a second ago. All I know is in a big game. With a shite ton of hype. With the whole world watching. Alabama's secondary will not allow a team to pass the ball on them. How many yards did LSU have on them? And I'd be willing to bet teams throw on Alabama much more.

Eric Reid's pick is an example of why LSU's secondary is better. They make plays on the ball better than most...yes even Bama.
